Threefold bondage

[Base sūtra:] Bondage (bandha) is threefold.

[Verse:] The {{prakṛti|nature}}-bondage is the absorption into prakṛti of one who conceives [it] as the supreme; the second, the modificatory (vaikārika) [bondage], is the absorption [of attention] of renunciants upon the organs;

[Verse:] the sacrificial-fee (dakṣiṇā) bondage is of householders who pride themselves on [their] liberality. Thus this bondage is threefold; [and now] threefold liberation is declared.
