Maṇḍala 9
Ancient Aufrecht (ed.) Sanskrit9.1.1 Flow, O Soma, with thy sweetest, most exhilarating stream; thou art pressed out for Indra to drink.
9.1.2 The slayer of Rākṣasas, beholder of all beings, settles upon the iron-firm birthplace, taking his seat in the wooden vessel.
9.1.3 Be thou the greatest giver of freedom, the most bountiful, the most potent slayer of Vṛtra; convey to us the wealth of the munificent ones.
9.1.4 Flow forth with the Soma-juice to the feast of the great gods; flow forth for food and for renown.
9.1.5 To thee, O Indu, day by day we draw near with this purpose alone; our desires rest in thee.
9.1.6 The daughter of the Sun purifies thy flowing Soma with her eternal fleece, forever and ever.
9.1.7 Ten nimble fingers take hold of him, his sisters, at the proper celestial time — the ten divine maidens seize him.
9.1.8 The unmarried maidens urge him on; they blow into the resounding skin-bag — the honey that possesses three stations and is worthy of being held back.
9.1.9 The holy, unslayable milk-cows also mix him — this child, this Soma — for Indra to drink.
9.1.10 By these exhilarations of Soma, Indra strikes down all the Vṛtras; the hero bestows great gifts and wealth.
9.2.1 Flow forth swiftly, O Soma, thou who art the hero of the gods, past the filter; O Indu, O bull, enter into Indra.
9.2.2 Fill thyself full with the great food, O manly Indu, most abundantly glorious; take thy seat, thou who art firm by nature, upon thy birthplace.
9.2.3 The stream of the pressed one, the wise ordainer, has milked forth the beloved honey; clothed in the waters he stands, he of good resolution.
9.2.4 The great waters, the great rivers, flow after thee, the great one, when thou art about to clothe thyself with the cows' milk.
9.2.5 The ocean has cleansed itself in the waters; Soma, the support, the upholder of heaven, desiring us, flows through the filter.
9.2.6 The great tawny bull has cried aloud, beautiful as Mitra; he shines together with the Sun.
9.2.7 The praises, O Indu, of those who are busy working are polished bright for thee with power — those praises with which thou adornest thyself for intoxication.
9.2.8 We implore thee — thee who art impetuous for ecstasy, who art the maker of space; great are thy praises.
9.2.9 Flow for us, O Indu, longing for Indra, with a stream of sweetness — as Parjanya laden with rain.
9.2.10 Thou art the winner of cows, O Indu, the winner of men, the winner of horses, the winner of food; thou art the primordial soul of the sacrifice.
9.3.1 This immortal god flies like a bird with wings; he settles upon the wooden vessels.
9.3.2 This god, fashioned by the inspired sage, runs past the crooked places; the Pavamāna is not to be deceived.
9.3.3 This god, the Pavamāna, is wiped clean by the inspired praisers, by those who live according to Ṛta; the tawny one is cleansed for the winning of prizes.
9.3.4 This Pavamāna, like a warrior hero advancing, strives to win all desirable things.
9.3.5 This god, the Pavamāna, moves like a chariot-warrior; he serves the generous patron; he makes the praiseful bard manifest.
9.3.6 This god, praised by the sages, plunges through the waters, bestowing treasures upon the pious worshipper.
9.3.7 This Pavamāna runs through heaven, passing through the realms of air with his stream, roaring aloud.
9.3.8 This Pavamāna has coursed through heaven, untouched, passing through the aerial realms; he is the lord of the proper rite.
9.3.9 This god, pressed out of old for the gods, flows with his ancient birth through the filter, the tawny one.
9.3.10 This same one, of many ordinances, being born and generating nourishments, flows, when pressed, with his stream.
9.4.1 Both of old hast thou won, O Soma Pavamāna, and thou dost win great renown; so now make us more prosperous.
9.4.2 Of old hast thou won the light, of old the sun, and all good fortune, O Soma; so now make us more prosperous.
9.4.3 Of old hast thou won power and wisdom; slay the enemies, O Soma; so now make us more prosperous.
9.4.4 O ye purifiers, purify the Soma for Indra to drink; so now make us more prosperous.
9.4.5 Give us our share in the Sun, through thy wisdom, through thy help; so now make us more prosperous.
9.4.6 Through thy wisdom, through thy aid, may we behold the Sun for a long time; so now make us more prosperous.
9.4.7 Flow forth, O Soma, well-armed, with wealth that is doubly great; so now make us more prosperous.
9.4.8 Flow forth, undiminished, having conquered wealth in battles; so now make us more prosperous.
9.4.9 The sacrifices have exalted thee, O Pavamāna, in thy distributive ordinance; so now make us more prosperous.
9.4.10 Bring to us, O Indu, brilliant wealth abounding in horses and full of all life; so now make us more prosperous.
9.5.1 Kindled, the lord of all quarters, Pavamāna reigns radiantly; the bull gladdens all, roaring aloud.
9.5.2 Tanūnapāt Pavamāna flows, sharpening his two horns, shining brilliantly through the atmosphere.
9.5.3 The Pavamāna who is worthy of invocation shines forth, luminous treasure, with streams of sweetness and with might.
9.5.4 Spreading the eastward-laid sacred grass with his might, the tawny Pavamāna, a god among gods, is invoked.
9.5.5 The divine golden doors swing open wide with a great sound, praised by the Pavamāna.
9.5.6 The two great ones, splendidly adorned with beauty — Night and Dawn, like two who do not see each other — Pavamāna desires them as a bull.
9.5.7 I invoke both the divine priests, beholders of men: Pavamāna and the bull Indra.
9.5.8 May Bhāratī of the Pavamāna, great Sarasvatī, and Iḷā — may the three fair-formed goddesses come to this our sacrifice.
9.5.9 I invoke Tvaṣṭṛ, the firstborn, the protector, the foremost mover; Indu is Indra, the bull, the tawny Pavamāna, Prajāpati.
9.5.10 O Pavamāna, anoint the lord of the forest with thy stream of sweetness — the thousand-branched, the green, the glittering, the golden one.
9.5.11 Come, all ye gods, to the Svāhā offering of the Pavamāna — Vāyu, Bṛhaspati, Sūrya, Agni, and Indra together, in union.
9.6.1 Flow, O Soma, with thy gladdening stream, O bull, longing for the gods, desiring us through the woollen filters.
9.6.2 Flow, O Indu, toward that exhilarating intoxication, crying 'Indra!'; flow toward the vigorous steeds.
9.6.3 Pressed out, flow, O Soma, through the filter toward that primordial exhilaration; flow toward food and renown.
9.6.4 The Soma-drops, the Indus, have flowed after their path like waters along a slope; purifying themselves, they have entered Indra.
9.6.5 Him whom the ten maidens wipe clean like a race-horse full of vigour — him who sports like a swift sheep in the forest.
9.6.6 Mingle the sap of that bull together with the cows' milk, when pressed, for the exhilaration and the delight of the gods; bring him.
9.6.7 A god flows by his stream for a god; when pressed, he flows for Indra, having swelled with his milk.
9.6.8 The soul of the sacrifice, pressed out, flows swiftly, well pressed; he preserves the ancient wisdom-poetry.
9.6.9 Thus purifying thyself, longing for Indra, O most exhilarating, for the delight — even in the secret place thou holdest the praises.
9.7.1 The Indu-drops, beautiful, have been set flowing along the path, along the ordinance of Ṛta, knowing the harnessing thereof.
9.7.2 The foremost stream of sweetness plunges through the great waters; he is worthy of praise among oblations, the best of oblations.
9.7.3 The foremost driver of words has roared like a bull in the forest; he is truly the one who pervades the proper rite with his seat.
9.7.4 When the seer, clothed in his poetic powers and in heroic might, flows around, the swift steed strives to win the sun.
9.7.5 Pavamāna settles upon the peoples who contend against him, like a king, when the ordaining priests set him in motion.
9.7.6 The beloved tawny one rests in the woollen filter, rests in the wooden vessels; the singing priest wins favour through his song of praise.
9.7.7 He who delights in Soma's ordinances goes together with his exhilaration to Vāyu, to Indra, to the Aśvins.
9.7.8 Toward Mitra and Varuṇa, toward Bhaga, the waves of sweetness flow purifying, knowing his powers.
9.7.9 O Heaven and Earth, win for us wealth and the sweetness of Soma for the gaining of food-prizes — renown and all good things.
9.8.1 These Somas have flowed toward the beloved desire of Indra, increasing his heroic might.
9.8.2 They, the purifying ones who sit in the pressing vessels, going toward Vāyu, toward the Aśvins — may they grant us true heroic power.
9.8.3 O Soma, purifying thyself for the gift of Indra, stimulate his heart; take thy seat in the birthplace of Ṛta.
9.8.4 Ten nimble fingers cleanse thee; seven songs of praise urge thee on; after thee the inspired ones have rejoiced.
9.8.5 Thee, released for the exhilaration of the gods, O thou who dost spring over the filter — we clothe thee with the cows' milk.
9.8.6 Purifying himself, he, the ruddy tawny one, is clothed in garments in the bowls; he has wrapped himself about with the dairy-gifts.
9.8.7 Flow for us, O lord of bounty; slay all enemies; O Indu, enter into thy friend.
9.8.8 Flow from heaven as rain; lay glory upon the earth; establish our might, O Soma, in battles.
9.8.9 May we partake of thee, the beholder of men, drunk by Indra, the finder of the sun — of thy offspring and nourishment.
9.9.1 The beloved seer of heaven, placed amid the two young women's limbs, pressed out, goes forth — he of seer-wisdom.
9.9.2 Forth and forth, beloved of the guileless people who are worthy of praise and destined for a home — flow onward most pleasingly.
9.9.3 That pure son, born, has illumined both his mothers as they came into being — great is he, and they are the two great ones who prosper Ṛta.
9.9.4 He, sustained by seven songs of devotion, the guileless one has made the rivers rejoice — the rivers that have grown into the one eye.
9.9.5 They have placed Indu — the ever-present, unconquered, great, youthful one — within thy ordinance, O Indra.
9.9.6 The immortal bearer, ever-moving, looks upon the seven; the active one has gratified the divine ones.
9.9.7 Help us, O Soma, in our proper rites, O manly one; fight away the darknesses; smite them while purifying thyself.
9.9.8 Now, for the newest, most recent, well-spoken hymn, make smooth the paths; illuminate the brilliances as of old.
9.9.9 O Pavamāna, give us great fame, cows, and horses together with heroes; give us wisdom of old and the heavenly light of old.
9.10.1 Sounding forth like chariots, eager for glory like swift steeds, the Somas have stepped forth toward wealth.
9.10.2 Urged on like chariots, they have run forward upon the arms of the presser, like the loads of toiling men.
9.10.3 Like kings with their praises, the Somas anoint themselves with the cows' milk; like a sacrifice with the seven dispensers.
9.10.4 The pressed Indu-drops, pressed out, flow in a stream for exhilaration, with a mighty song.
9.10.5 Having drunk of Vivasvat's gift, they have given birth to the good fortune of the Dawns; the heroes spread the subtle one wide.
9.10.6 The singers, devoted men of the bull, open wide the ancient doors of inspired thoughts with the fiery glow of the bull.
9.10.7 The seven kindred priests, facing one another, sit; they fill the footstep of the one.
9.10.8 Hub to hub they joined together; even the eye accompanies the Sun; from the offspring of the seer they milk out the blessing.
9.10.9 With the eyes of the sun, the loved ones behold the seat of heaven set in secret by the adhvaryu priests.
9.11.1 Sing to him, O men, to the Pavamāna, to the drop Indu; he seeks to win the gods.
9.11.2 The Atharvans have blended milk with honey for you; the divine one, god-devoted, for the god.
9.11.3 Flow purified for our good, O king — welfare to the cow, welfare to the people, welfare to the steed, welfare to the herbs.
9.11.4 Sing a song to the tawny one, to the self-mighty, to the ruddy one that touches heaven — to Soma.
9.11.5 Purify the pressed Soma with the stones shaken in the hands; run the sweet into the sweet.
9.11.6 Draw near reverently and be seated; press the Soma down and strain it; place the drop in Indra.
9.11.7 Flow purified, O Soma, slayer of foes, all-seeing, for the welfare of the cow, fulfilling the desires of the gods.
9.11.8 For Indra's drinking, for his rapture, you are poured around, O Soma — even the lord of the mind in the mind.
9.11.9 O Pavamāna, O Soma, pour upon us riches and heroic strength; O Indu, together with Indra be our companion.
9.12.1 The Soma-drops, the Indus, have flowed, pressed out, in the seat of Ṛta — for Indra, most rich in sweetness.
9.12.2 The inspired sages have sung toward him, as cows toward their calf, toward Indra for the drinking of the Soma.
9.12.3 The wise one, shaking rapture, dwells in the seat upon the wave of the river; Soma is established upon the Gaurī.
9.12.4 At the navel of the sky, all-seeing, he is magnified in the fleece of the sheep — Soma who is the wise-willed seer.
9.12.5 The Soma that is placed within the jars, set in the filter — Indu has embraced him all around.
9.12.6 Indu sends forth the voice above the expanse of the ocean, quickening the honey-dripping vessel.
9.12.7 The lord of the forest, ever-praised, the fulfiller within the inspired thoughts, urges on the generations of men.
9.12.8 Toward the beloved stations of the sky, Soma the seer flows impelling, with the stream of the inspired one.
9.12.9 O Pavamāna, hold fast for us the wealth of thousandfold splendour; O Indu, that which is self-sprung.
9.13.1 Soma flows purified, of a thousand streams, passing through the woolly filter, the appointed share of Vāyu and Indra.
9.13.2 Sing forth to the Pavamāna, to the inspired one, you who seek help — to him who is well-pressed for the delight of the gods.
9.13.3 The Somas of thousandfold brilliance flow for the winning of prize, being praised for the delight of the gods.
9.13.4 And flow for us for the winning of prize, with great refreshments; O Indu, with radiance and heroic strength.
9.13.5 Let those Indus, those gods, well-pressed, flow to us with thousandfold wealth and heroic strength.
9.13.6 Swift ones, driven like racing steeds by drivers, they have flowed for the winning of prize; the swift ones have spread the sheep's wool filter apart.
9.13.7 The bellowing Indu-drops flow toward him as milch-cows toward their calf; they have made their way to the arms.
9.13.8 O Pavamāna, exhilarating, beloved by Indra, roaring aloud — smite away all enemies.
9.13.9 The Pavamānas, gazing upon the light of heaven, driving off the niggards, take their seat in the womb of Ṛta.
9.14.1 The seer has rushed all around, established upon the wave of the river, bearing the prized thing much desired.
9.14.2 When the five troops of kindred, working with their hands, adorn the sustainer with their voice.
9.14.3 Then all the gods have rejoiced in the juice of this vigorous one when he is clothed with the milk-streams.
9.14.4 Cleansing himself, he flows forth, leaving behind the husks with his body; here he meets his mate in union.
9.14.5 He who, young and radiant, has cleansed himself among the daughters of Vivasvat, making the cows as a shining garment.
9.14.6 Passing over the two pressing-boards, going through obliquely, he goes with the slender stream for the cow-pastures; he raises the voice that is known.
9.14.7 The fingers have come together, purifying the lord of refreshment; they grasp the back of the swift racer.
9.14.8 Touching all the heavenly and earthly things, O Soma, come toward us bearing goods.
9.15.1 This hero goes by the slender stream of inspiration, with swift chariots, going to the appointed share of Indra.
9.15.2 This one is much meditated upon for the great gathering of the gods, where the immortals are seated.
9.15.3 This one, set in motion, is led through the bright path within, when the mighty ones urge him on.
9.15.4 This bull of the herd, shaking his horns, whetted — bearing manly power with might.
9.15.5 This swift racer goes adorned with golden ornaments, with bright stalks, becoming the lord of the rivers.
9.15.6 This one, having gone past the knotty, clinging goods, goes down to the resting places.
9.15.7 The descendants of Āyu cleanse this one worthy of cleansing in the troughs, him who sets in motion the great refreshments.
9.15.8 And this one the ten fingers cleanse, and the seven devotions — he of his own weapons, most intoxicating.
9.16.1 Your pressers have sent forth the juice for rapturous exhilaration — Etaśa flies like a loosed arrow.
9.16.2 By the power of understanding, clothing himself in the waters with the Soma-plant that drives the chariot — we follow in the narrow ways of the cows.
9.16.3 Release the Soma that is unwet yet hard to pass through into the filter; purify it for Indra to drink.
9.16.4 By the will of the self-purifying one, Soma flows through the filter; by his power he has taken his seat in the common dwelling.
9.16.5 The Indus, the Somas, have let you flow, O Indra, with acts of homage — the active ones for great bestowal.
9.16.6 Flowing purified in imperishable form toward all splendours, he stands among the cows like a hero.
9.16.7 The stream of the pressed Soma, swollen like the crest of heaven, flows freely through the filter.
9.16.8 You, O Soma, streaming purified in the lifetimes of the all-wise, run through the fleece of the sheep.
9.17.1 Like rivers rushing downward, smashing obstacles, full-streaming, the swift Somas have flowed forth.
9.17.2 The pressed Indu-drops, like showers of rain upon the earth, have streamed toward Indra.
9.17.3 Soma, intoxicating and exhilarating, of surging waves, flows through the filter, god-seeking, shattering the Rākṣasas.
9.17.4 He runs into the jars, is poured all around through the filter, and grows great among the sacrifices with the lauds.
9.17.5 O Soma, passing beyond the three shining realms, you shine as you mount the sky; urging the sun forward, you have set him in motion.
9.17.6 The inspired poets, the craftsmen, have sung toward him, the head of the sacrifice, placing the beloved one in the eye.
9.17.7 And you, the swift racer — inspired men, help-seeking, cleanse you with their devotions for the divine gathering.
9.17.8 Flow after the stream of honey; sharp, you have taken your seat in the common place, lovely, to be drunk for Ṛta.
9.18.1 Pressed and dwelling on the mountain, Soma has flowed through the filter all around; in raptures you are the giver of all.
9.18.2 You are the inspired one, you are the seer, the honey born from the Soma plant; in raptures you are the giver of all.
9.18.3 All the gods, of like enjoyment, have partaken of your drink; in raptures you are the giver of all.
9.18.4 You who have placed all desirable goods in your two hands; in raptures you are the giver of all.
9.18.5 You who milk these two great worlds together as a mother; in raptures you are the giver of all.
9.18.6 You who flow all around both worlds at once with prizes; in raptures you are the giver of all.
9.18.7 He, the vigorous one, flowing into the jars self-purified, has cried aloud; in raptures you are the giver of all.
9.19.1 O Soma, whatever brilliant wealth, worthy to be praised in hymns, celestial and earthly, may be — bring that to us as you flow purified.
9.19.2 For you two, O Indra and Soma, are lords of the light, lords of the cattle; ruling, do you two swell our inspirations.
9.19.3 The bull, flowing purified among the living, thundering upon the sacred grass, being the tawny one, has taken his seat in the womb.
9.19.4 The devotions have cried out over the seed of the bull — the mothers of the son, of the calf.
9.19.5 Did the purifying one place the embryo in those that desire the bull — those that milk the bright milk?
9.19.6 Cast fear upon those who sit plotting against us, upon the enemies; O Pavamāna, find wealth for us.
9.19.7 O Soma, strike down the foe's virile power, strike down his vigour, strike down his strength — whether he is afar or near.
9.20.1 The seer flows through the fleece-filters for the delight of the gods, having overcome all rivals.
9.20.2 For he indeed impels toward the praisers the thousand-fold prize rich in cattle — the Pavamāna.
9.20.3 You touch all things with your consciousness and flow purified with inspired thought; O Soma, grant us fame.
9.20.4 Flow with great glory, with firm wealth for the bountiful ones; bring refreshment to the praisers.
9.20.5 You, O Soma, like a king of righteous vows, have entered the songs; O wondrous carrier, flowing purified.
9.20.6 He, the carrier, hard to pass in the waters, being cleansed in the hands — Soma takes his seat in the bowls.
9.20.7 Playful, bountiful like the active Makha, you go to the filter, O Soma, bestowing heroic strength upon the praiser.
9.21.1 These Soma-drops, the indu-streams, run swiftly on for Indra, exhilarating, intoxicating, finders of the heavenly light.
9.21.2 Pressing forward, conquering enemies, pressed for the liberal patron, finders of wide space, of themselves bestowing vigour upon the singer.
9.21.3 The indu-drops play freely and flow straight to the one gathering-place; they have streamed forth in the wave of the river (Sindhu).
9.21.4 These Pavamāna Soma-drops have attained all desirable things, like the seven bay horses harnessed to the chariot.
9.21.5 Place in this one, O indu-drops, the tawny (Soma) as a sign for Vena — he who is ungrudging toward us.
9.21.6 Like Ṛbhu fashioning a new chariot-wheel, place insight as a sign (for Vena); O bright ones, flow onward with the flood.
9.21.7 These very ones have bellowed forth; the swift ones have reached the goal; from his very being they have sent forth thought.
9.22.1 These swift Soma-drops, swift as racing-chariots, strong, released in streams, have roared forth.
9.22.2 These are wide like the winds, like the rains of Parjanya, and freely roam like the sparks of Agni.
9.22.3 These purified, wise Soma-drops, mixed with curds of Dadhyañc, have penetrated through all sacred hymns with their stream of inspiration.
9.22.4 These cleansed immortal ones, having flowed on, have not grown weary; longing to worship, they illumine the paths of heaven.
9.22.5 These, striding apart, have pervaded the backs of the two worlds (heaven and earth), and have reached this highest realm.
9.22.6 They have reached the thread being woven most high, flowing downward along the slope — and this most exalted one too.
9.22.7 You, O Soma, have wrested treasures and cattle-wealth from the Paṇis; you have bellowed forth, stretching out the thread (of the sacrifice).
9.23.1 The swift Soma-drops have streamed forth with the flood of sweet exhilaration, pervading all the hymns of vision (kāvya).
9.23.2 The human worshippers of old have followed the newer path; for the sake of brightness they have generated the Sun.
9.23.3 O Pavamāna, bring for us the estate of the ungiven — the niggard's home; make our refreshments rich in offspring.
9.23.4 The Soma-drops, belonging to men, flow on with exhilarating intoxication, toward the honey-dripping cask.
9.23.5 Soma flows on, sustaining, bearing the Indra-potent juice, of excellent heroism, a guardian against curses.
9.23.6 For Indra, O Soma, you flow purified; joyous together with the gods, O indu, you desire to win the prize.
9.23.7 Drinking of this, (the Soma) of exhilarations, Indra smote the Vṛtras unopposed — he smote them and shall smite them now.
9.24.1 The Soma-drops, the Pavamāna indu-streams, have sprung forward swiftly; being mixed (with milk), they are cleansed in the waters.
9.24.2 The cows (of milk) have rushed forward, like waters flowing down the slope; being purified, they have reached Indra.
9.24.3 O Pavamāna, you rush forward as Soma for Indra to drink; you are led onward by the men (priests) along various (paths).
9.24.4 Flow purified, O Soma, gladdener of men, conquering all peoples — you who are the winner and worthy of rejoicing.
9.24.5 O indu, when pressed by the stones you run around the filter, you are (thereby made) fit for the seat of Indra.
9.24.6 Flow purified, O supreme Vṛtra-slayer, celebrated with hymns of praise — pure, purifying, and wondrous.
9.24.7 Soma is called pure and purifying in the sweetness of the pressed draught — the champion of the gods, destroyer of sinful speech.
9.25.1 Flow purified, O Hari (the tawny one), accomplishing skillful might, for the gods to drink — O exhilaration, (flow) for the Maruts and for Vāyu.
9.25.2 O Pavamāna, urged forward by sacred thought, crying out toward your resting place, enter into Vāyu by the law (dharman).
9.25.3 The vigorous seer shines beautifully together with the gods, beloved in his native seat — the Vṛtra-slayer, most sought by the gods.
9.25.4 Entering all forms, the desirable one goes, being purified, to where the immortals are seated.
9.25.5 The ruddy Soma, with the insight of a seer, flows purified, generating hymns for life, going to Indra.

9.26.1 Him, the powerful one, the inspired priests have cleansed upon the lap of Aditi, with fine and subtle thought.
9.26.2 The cows (of milk) have lowed toward him — the indu of a thousand streams, inexhaustible, the sustainer of heaven.
9.26.3 The inspired ones have extolled him — the Pavamāna, nourishing greatly upon the sky, the sustainer and abundant bestower.
9.26.4 They have extolled him with abundant devotion — he who dwells with Vivasvat (the Sun), the inviolable lord of the sacred word.
9.26.5 The kindred women (the fingers) urge him on with the pressing-stones upon the back of the (pressing-board) — the tawny, desirable one, the one of wide vision.

9.30.4 Soma Pavamāna has gushed forth, overflowing with his stream; he has settled into the wooden troughs.
9.30.5 In the waters they urge you forward with the pressing-stones, O most honey-sweet tawny one, O indu, for Indra to drink.
9.30.6 Press out the most honey-sweet Soma for Indra the wielder of the thunderbolt — the lovely, exhilarating one for his divine host.
9.31.1 The Soma juices, self-bright and purifying, have flowed forth; they create wealth endowed with consciousness.
9.31.2 Be, O Indu, above heaven and earth, increaser of splendour; be the lord of nourishing powers.
9.31.3 To you, O Soma, the winds blow most dear; to you the rivers stream; they increase your greatness.
9.31.4 Swell forth; let your virile power come together to you from all sides, O Soma; be present at the gathering of nourishment.
9.31.5 To you, O tawny one, the cows have milked butter and indestructible milk upon the highest ridge.
9.31.6 O Indu, lord of the world, you who are well-armed and ever-present — we desire your friendship.
9.32.1 The Soma juices, dripping with exhilaration, have flowed forth for our glory, for us the bountiful; the pressed drops have advanced to the assembly.
9.32.2 The maidens of Trita press the tawny one forward with the pressing-stones — the Indu for Indra to drink.
9.32.3 Like a swan upon the flock, he has filled all minds with desire; like a swift steed he is anointed with the milk-streams.
9.32.4 You have illumined both worlds, O Soma; like a beast that has been sprinkled, you flow onward, settling into the womb of Ṛta.
9.32.5 The cows have lowed in response, as a young woman toward her beloved lover; they have reached the contest as if appointed.
9.32.6 Bestow upon us and upon the bountiful ones luminous glory, O Soma; bestow the winning of wisdom and of fame.
9.33.1 The wise Soma juices flow forward like waves of the waters, like buffaloes through forests.
9.33.2 The tawny, bright ones have streamed into the wooden vessels with the stream of Ṛta, carrying nourishment rich in cattle.
9.33.3 The pressed Soma juices flow for Indra, for Vāyu, for Varuṇa, for the Maruts, and for Viṣṇu.
9.33.4 Three voices arise; the cows low, the milch-cows cry; the tawny Soma comes roaring along.
9.33.5 The sacred prayer-streams have sounded in answer, the mighty mothers of Ṛta; they cleanse the child of heaven.
9.33.6 Purify for us, O Soma, from every side the four oceans of wealth, thousandfold.
9.34.1 Pressed and urged forward, the Indu streams along with a continuous flow, breaking through firm obstacles with his might.
9.34.2 Pressed out, Soma streams for Indra, for Vāyu, for Varuṇa, for the Maruts, and for Viṣṇu.
9.34.3 They press the Soma, the vigorous bull yoked with bull-like stones; with skillful effort they milk forth the milk.
9.34.4 He becomes the cleanser of Trita; he becomes the exhilarating drink for Indra; the tawny one is anointed with his bright forms.
9.34.5 The speckled mothers milk for him the summit of Ṛta — the dear and most beloved oblation.
9.34.6 These faultless hymns flow together toward him as he streams along; the roaring one has called out to the milk-cows.
9.35.1 Purify for us, O Pavamāna, with a stream of abundant wealth, whereby you would reveal light to us.
9.35.2 O Indu, set the ocean in motion; flow onward, shaker of all things, sustainer of riches for us by your might.
9.35.3 With you as our hero, O heroic one, may we overcome those who attack us; flow toward us what is desirable.
9.35.4 The Indu, the inspired sage desiring to win nourishment, sends forward the prize — knowing the sacred ordinances and his weapons.
9.35.5 Him who sets speech in motion, we clothe with hymns as he purifies himself — Soma, the lord of the people's cattle.
9.35.6 All people have steadied themselves in the sacred vow of him who is the lord of Dharma, of him who purifies himself, the lord of abundant wealth.
9.36.1 He has been released like a racehorse; pressed out, he enters the filter of the two bowls; the prize-winning steed has stepped down upon the field.
9.36.2 You, O Soma, the ever-wakeful carrier, flow onward, most heroic among the gods, toward the vessel that drips with sweetness.
9.36.3 O Pavamāna, you the primeval one, illuminate the lights for us; impel us toward wisdom and discernment.
9.36.4 Adorning himself with those who live by Ṛta, being cleansed by the hands, he purifies himself in the imperishable wool-filter.
9.36.5 Let that Soma purify all heavenly, earthly, and atmospheric riches for the worshipper.
9.36.6 Desiring horses, desiring cattle, O Soma, desiring heroes — you ascend to the back of heaven, O lord of might.
9.37.1 This Soma, pressed and bull-like, streams through the filter for drinking, smiting the demons, eager for the gods.
9.37.2 The far-seeing tawny one, the steady one, streams through the filter, roaring toward his birthplace.
9.37.3 The prize-winning Pavamāna runs through the luminous realms of heaven, the slayer of demons, through the imperishable woolen strainer.
9.37.4 Purifying himself upon the ridge of Trita's realm, he illumined the sun together with his kinsmen.
9.37.5 That pressed, bull-like, unfailing Soma, slayer of Vṛtra, the finder of wide space, has rushed forward as if to win the prize.
9.37.6 That divine one, urged by the sage, runs toward the wooden vessels; the Indu flows toward Indra with his bounty.
9.38.1 This indeed is that bull-like chariot which streams with the sheep's-wool strands, going to win the thousandfold prize.
9.38.2 The maidens of Trita urge this tawny one forward with the pressing-stones — the Indu for Indra to drink.
9.38.3 The ten tawny mares, eager for action, cleanse him — those by whom he shines for the exhilaration.
9.38.4 This one settles among human settlements like a falcon, going like a lover toward a woman.
9.38.5 This intoxicating juice, the child of heaven, gazes down, this Indu who has entered the woolen filter.
9.38.6 This pressed tawny one, the steady one, streams for drinking, calling out toward his dear birthplace.
9.39.1 Flow swiftly, O Soma, for him of great wisdom, around with your dear abode — where the gods declare you to be.
9.39.2 Adorning what is unadorned, dispensing refreshments to the people, flow around as the rain of heaven.
9.39.3 The pressed one moves through the filter, bearing brilliance with his might, all-seeing and illumining.
9.39.4 This is he who, swift of course, has flowed out through the filter from the heavens, like a wave of a river.
9.39.5 Shining forth from what is far away and also from what is near, the pressed one — the sweet drink is poured for Indra.
9.39.6 Those who face together have sounded in response; they urge the tawny one forward with the pressing-stones; settle in the womb of Ṛta.
9.40.1 Purifying himself, the all-beholding one has advanced against all enemies; with their sacred thoughts they adorn the inspired sage.
9.40.2 The ruddy, bull-like, pressed Soma mounts the birthplace; he goes to Indra; he settles in the firm abode.
9.40.3 Now, O Indu, O Soma, purify for us from every side a great and thousandfold wealth.
9.40.4 O Soma Pavamāna, O Indu, bring to us all glories; bring thousandfold refreshments.
9.40.5 Do you, as you purify yourself, bring to us wealth rich in valiant men for the singer; increase the hymns of the praiser.
9.40.6 O Indu, as you purify yourself, O Soma, bring us doubly-great wealth; O bull, O Indu, bring us what is worthy of praise.
9.41.1 They who, like impetuous cattle, have boldly stridden forth — the fierce, eager ones — smiting off the dark skin.
9.41.2 We meditate upon prosperous welfare, overcoming the hard-to-cross barrier, overpowering the Dasyu who observes no sacred rites.
9.41.3 The roar of the vigorous Pavamāna is heard like the sound of rain; the lightnings move about in the sky.
9.41.4 Flow in, purifying thyself, with great refreshment, O Indu — refreshment rich in cattle, rich in gold, rich in horses, rich in food, thou the pressed one.
9.41.5 Purify thyself, all-beholding one; fill the two great worlds — as Uṣas, as the Sun with rays.
9.41.6 Flow around us on all sides, O Soma, with a sheltering stream — even as a swiftly running juice flows through the firmament.
9.42.1 Generating the bright spaces of heaven, generating the Sun within the waters, the tawny one clothing himself with the cows and the waters.
9.42.2 This god, pressed out, purifies himself with a stream surpassing the other gods, with the ancient hymn of praise.
9.42.3 For him who is ever waxing strong, for the swift one, for the winning of prizes, the Somas of thousandfold splendour flow, purifying themselves.
9.42.4 Milking out the ancient milk, he pours himself around the filter; roaring, he has given birth to the gods.
9.42.5 Soma, self-purifying, flows toward all desirable things, toward the gods who magnify the sacred order.
9.42.6 Purify thyself, O Soma, pressed out with refreshment rich in cattle, rich in heroes, rich in horses, rich in food — with abundant refreshments.
9.43.1 Him who is polished with cows like a steed for exhilaration — the beloved one — we clothe with hymns.
9.43.2 All our songs, eager for favour, adorn him as of old — the drop, for Indra to drink.
9.43.3 The beloved Soma moves, self-purifying, adorned by the hymns of the inspired sage, of Medhyātithi.
9.43.4 O Pavamāna, grant us wealth — beautiful wealth, O Soma, O Indu — of thousandfold brilliance.
9.43.5 The drop, like a prize-winning steed, neighing, pours itself through the filter — the pious one flowing out beyond.
9.43.6 Purify thyself for the winning of prizes, for the growth of the inspired singer who praises thee; O Soma, bestow heroic strength.
9.44.1 For us, O Indu, thou flowest forth bearing a wave toward the great web; thou, the eager one, strivest toward the gods.
9.44.2 Soma the seer, pleasing to the mind, directed by thought, is urged on from afar — with the stream of the inspired sage.
9.44.3 This watchful one, pressed out, goes into the filter; Soma, the all-beholding, moves onward among the gods.
9.44.4 Purify thyself for us, eager for food, fashioning the lovely sacrifice; thou seekest to illuminate the one who is rich in sacred grass.
9.44.5 Let that ever-growing Soma, whose heroes are inspired sages, reach to us among the gods for Bhaga and for Vāyu.
9.44.6 He who knows the will, who knows the way most excellently — do thou today, for our obtaining of wealth, win for us food and great glory.
9.45.1 Purify thyself, O soma drop, for gladdening delight — thou who seest mankind — for the enjoyment of the gods, for Indra to drink.
9.45.2 Flow toward us on thy embassy to Indra for his satisfaction; bring the best gift from the gods to thy friends.
9.45.3 And we anoint thee, the ruddy one, with cows for gladdening delight; throw open wide for us the doors to wealth.
9.45.4 The prize-winner has stepped forth beyond the filter like a chariot-horse on the march; the drop holds sway among the gods.
9.45.5 The friends together have sung aloud — the drop that plays in the wood like an unruly ram; they have praised Indu with their boat-song.
9.45.6 Purify thyself with that stream by which, when drunk, thou art seen in thy glory; O Indu, bring heroic strength to the singer.
9.46.1 They have rushed forth for the enjoyment of the gods — like strong ones performing their task — flowing, strengthened by the mountain-stones.
9.46.2 The Indu-drops, adorned, like a maiden following her father, the Somas have been sent forth toward Vāyu.
9.46.3 These Soma-drops, these Indus, pressed out in the two bowls, full of refreshment, magnify Indra by their deeds.
9.46.4 O ye of skilful hands, run hither; seize the bright ones with the stirring-stick; blend the exhilarating juice with cows' milk.
9.46.5 Purify thyself, O conqueror of wealth, directing great bounty toward us; O Soma, knowing the path.
9.46.6 The ten fingers polish this worthy one, the self-purifying Pavamāna — the exhilarating intoxicant for Indra.
9.47.1 By this right action, Soma has grown great even beyond the great; gladdened, he roars like a bull.
9.47.2 His deeds accomplished, ready to be done, his Dasyu-smiting powers are awakened; the bold one metes out debts in recompense.
9.47.3 So Soma, the invigorating essence, becomes a thousandfold-conquering thunderbolt when his praise-hymn is born.
9.47.4 The seer himself, among those who dispense, seeks a gem for the inspired man — when the thoughts are polished well.
9.47.5 Thou art one who desires to win riches — as horses in contests of speed; thou art the victor in the battles of givers.
9.48.1 Thee — bearing manly powers, lovely, in the dwelling-places of the great heaven — we call upon with right action.
9.48.2 The bold one who draws all to himself, worthy of praise-hymns, the exhilarating rapture whose great vow is mighty — him who desires to break a hundred citadels.
9.48.3 From yonder place, the well-winged one, undisturbed, O Sukratu, has brought thee — the king of heaven — bringing wealth.
9.48.4 The hero has brought the guardian of the sacred order — the light of the sun, common to all to behold, swiftly passing through the region of the air.
9.48.5 Then, urging on the Indra-faculty, he has attained to a greatness that is still greater; the all-beholding one who creates conquest.
9.49.1 Purify thyself, bringing rain for us, the wave of the waters from around heaven — bringing great refreshments free of disease.
9.49.2 Purify thyself with that stream by which the cattle have come hither — the kindred ones near to our house.
9.49.3 Flow with a stream of ghee, thou most beloved of the gods at sacrifices; purify thyself bringing rain to us.
9.49.4 For our strength, run through the imperishable filter with thy stream — for the gods shall surely hear.
9.49.5 Pavamāna has settled himself; he has kicked away the demons; he illumines his lights as of old.
9.50.1 Thy vigours rise up like the sound of a wave of the river; urge forward the rim of the wheel of the lute-player.
9.50.2 At thy impulse, the three spirited voices rise up — when thou goest to the sheepskin ridges of the straining-cloth.
9.50.3 On the woollen filter, with the pressing-stones, they urge on the beloved tawny one — the self-purifying Pavamāna who drips with sweetness.
9.50.4 Flow into the filter with thy stream, O most exhilarating one, O Seer; take thy seat in the womb of the hymn.
9.50.5 Purify thyself, O most exhilarating one, anointed with cows and with rays of light, O drop, for Indra to drink.
9.51.1 O Adhvaryu, release into the filter the Soma pressed with the stones; purify it for Indra to drink.
9.51.2 Press out the supreme elixir of heaven, this most honey-sweet Soma, for Indra the wielder of the vajra.
9.51.3 O Indu, the gods partake of that sweet drink of yours, of the sweet juice of you who flow in purification — the Maruts do so.
9.51.4 For you, O Soma, when pressed, invigorating, pour yourself for the exhilaration of the vehement one; O bull, be the aid of the singer of praise.
9.51.5 Flow onward, O all-discerning one, pressed, with a stream through the filter; flow onward toward strength and toward glory.
9.52.1 May the heaven-dwelling bestower of wealth, through his inebriating liquor, bring us strength; pressed out, flow into the filter.
9.52.2 By the ancient paths of yours, beloved, through the sheep's-wool filter, may he of a thousand streams pass along in full body.
9.52.3 O Indu, like a cauldron rock it — rock that generous gift; rock it with your weapons, O bearer of weapons.
9.52.4 Press down, O Indu, the vigor of these peoples, O much-invoked one — of him who attacks us.
9.52.5 O Indu, flow in purification for us with a hundred aids — or a thousand — of the bright ones, O lavish bestower of riches.
9.53.1 Your powers have risen up, O stone-crusher, shattering the Rākṣasas; drive away those who are rivals.
9.53.2 This one has struck down with might at the chariot-encounter when the prize is at stake, to be praised with a fearless heart.
9.53.3 The sacred ordinances of this flowing Soma are not to be defied, not easily broken; break the one who contends against you.
9.53.4 They urge him on — the tawny one that sheds exhilaration, the prize-winning Indu flowing through the rivers — for Indra, the enrapturing one.
9.54.1 Following the ancient brightness of this one, the unfailing ones have milked out his bright milk — the seer who wins a thousand.
9.54.2 This one, like the sun, is visible all around; this one runs through the lakes, along the seven downward slopes to heaven.
9.54.3 This one, while flowing in purification, stands over all beings — Soma, the god, like the sun.
9.54.4 O Indu, flowing in purification, you course around us with cattle-rich prizes for the delight of the gods, O you who are eager for Indra.
9.55.1 O Soma, pour around us with your inebriating liquor — more and more nourishment, more and more abundance — and all good fortunes.
9.55.2 O Indu, according as your praise song rises, according as your inebriating juice has flowed forth — take your seat on the dear sacred grass.
9.55.3 O Soma, flow in purification with your inebriating liquor, knowing where the cattle are and knowing where the horses are, with the swiftest days.
9.55.4 He who conquers and is not conquered, who slays the enemy fearlessly — flow in purification as the winner of thousands.
9.56.1 Soma, swift and eager for the gods, flows around the great Ṛta in the filter, smashing the Rākṣasas.
9.56.2 When Soma flows for the prize, his hundred streams are active, entering into friendship with Indra.
9.56.3 The ten maidens have cried out to you as to a lover, as young women do; you are polished, O Soma, for winning the prize.
9.56.4 O sweet Indu, flow around for Indra and for Viṣṇu; protect the men, the singers of praise, from distress.
9.57.1 Your unceasing streams flow onward like the rains from heaven, toward the thousand-fold prize.
9.57.2 Viewing all the beloved poetic powers, the tawny one flows on, thrusting forward his weapons.
9.57.3 He, being polished by the living beings, like a mighty king of good vows, settles like a falcon at the resting-place.
9.57.4 O Indu, flowing in purification, bring us all treasures from heaven and from upon the earth.
9.58.1 Swiftly he runs, that exhilarating one — the stream of the pressed inebriating juice; swiftly he runs, that exhilarating one.
9.58.2 He knows the morning cattle of treasures, the divine aid for mortal man; swiftly he runs, that exhilarating one.
9.58.3 From the two dusty, far-reaching ones we receive thousands; swiftly he runs, that exhilarating one.
9.58.4 From those two we receive by lineage thirty and also thousands; swiftly he runs, that exhilarating one.
9.59.1 Flow in purification, O Soma — winner of cattle, winner of horses, winner of all, winner in battle; bring a jewel together with offspring.
9.59.2 Flow in purification among the waters, O inviolable one; flow in purification among the plants; flow in purification among the divine intelligences.
9.59.3 You, O Soma Pavamāna, cross over all difficulties; O seer, take your seat upon the sacred grass.
9.59.4 O Pavamāna, knower of the sun-realm, as you were born you became great; O Indu, you have prevailed over all.
9.60.1 Sing forth in the Gāyatrī meter — Pavamāna the all-surveying, Indu of a thousand eyes.
9.60.2 You, the thousand-eyed one, and moreover the one bearing a thousandfold — they have purified you through the filter.
9.60.3 Flowing in purification, having dripped through the filters, he runs toward the jars, entering into the heart of Indra.
9.60.4 O Soma, O all-surveying one, flow in purification auspiciously for Indra's bounty; bring seed together with offspring.
9.61.1 Flow around with this enjoyment, O Indu, who in thy raptures hast slain ninety-nine foes.
9.61.2 Forthwith, for Divodāsa who reflects even thus, thou didst smite Śambara; and Turvaśa, and Yadu.
9.61.3 Flow around us, O Indu, thou who knowest horses, with nourishment rich in kine, in gold, in steeds, thousandfold.
9.61.4 We choose the friendship of thee, Pavamāna, whose filter is sprinkled all about.
9.61.5 With those waves of thine, O Soma, that flow over the filter in a stream, be gracious unto us.
9.61.6 Do thou, purifying thyself, O Soma, bring to us wealth rich in hero-sons and food, thou who art lord of all.
9.61.7 Ten fingers cleanse this very Soma, the river-born, who has been viewed together with the Ādityas.
9.61.8 Pressed, he flows through the filter together with Indra, together with Vāyu, together with the rays of the Sun.
9.61.9 Flow for us, O sweet one, lovely for Bhaga, for Vāyu, for Pūṣan, for Mitra and Varuṇa.
9.61.10 The exalted birth of thy exhilarating juice is placed on high in heaven and on earth — mighty shelter, great glory.
9.61.11 Through this, O noble one, desiring to win all the glories of mankind, we praise thee.
9.61.12 Flow around, for us, for worshipful Indra, for Varuṇa, for the Maruts — thou who knowest wide space.
9.61.13 The gods have come near to this Indu, the swift-moving one newly born, adorned and decked with cows.
9.61.14 May our hymns strengthen him — as mother cows lowing around their calf — him who gladdens Indra's heart.
9.61.15 Flow to us, O Soma, blissful for the cow; milk out for us fattening nourishment; increase the hymn-worthy ocean.
9.61.16 Pavamāna has generated the great Vaiśvānara light, wondrous like the thunder of heaven.
9.61.17 Thy juice, the exhilaration of thee Pavamāna, O King, unerring, flows forth through the woollen filter.
9.61.18 O Pavamāna, thy vigorous juice shines brilliantly — the universal light, the sun, to be seen.
9.61.19 With that excellent rapture of thine, O Soma, flow through thy juice, a friend to the gods, a slayer of the wicked.
9.61.20 Thou art the slayer of the hostile Vṛtra, the winner of prizes day after day; thou art the finder of cows and horses.
9.61.21 Be thou commingled, O tawny one, like cows with fair udders, sitting down like a hawk into the vessel.
9.61.22 Do thou flow pure, thou who hast aided Indra to slay Vṛtra who had covered the great waters.
9.61.23 Provided with good heroes, may we win wealth, O liberal Soma; purifying thyself, magnify our hymns.
9.61.24 May we, who gain under thy protection and shelter, be active and eager; O Soma, be wakeful in thy rites.
9.61.25 Soma flows, smiting away enemies, driving off the niggardly, going to Indra's place of purification.
9.61.26 Bring us great riches, O Pavamāna; smite our foes; O Indu, grant us glory rich in hero-sons.
9.61.27 Not even a hundred deceivers can obstruct the bounty thou willest to bestow, when purifying thyself thou art bountiful.
9.61.28 Flow pure, O Indu, pressed and virile; make us glorious among men; smite away all enemies.
9.61.29 In thy friendship, O Indu, in thy supreme splendour, may we overcome those who fight against us.
9.61.30 Thy terrible, sharp weapons that are for the harm of the oppressor — guard us with them wholly from those who blame us.
9.62.1 These swift Indu-drops have been poured forth through the filter, going toward all prosperities.
9.62.2 Clearing away many evils, opening easy paths, the vigorous drops create good progeny for offspring and the coursing steed.
9.62.3 Making wide space for the cow, they flow toward excellent praise and toward Iḻā assembled together for us.
9.62.4 The stalk has been pressed for exhilaration; his vigour dwelling in the mountains and the waters — like a hawk he has settled in his seat.
9.62.5 The bright food, desired by the gods, purified in the waters, pressed by men — the cows make it savory with their milk.
9.62.6 Then, like those who urge a horse, they have adorned him for immortality, the juice of the sweet drink at the common festival.
9.62.7 Those honey-dripping streams of thine, O Indu, that have been poured forth for our help — with them thou hast settled on the filter.
9.62.8 He flows for Indra to drink, through the undying woollen hairs, settling into his vessel in the wood.
9.62.9 Do thou, O Indu, flow around, most sweet for the Aṅgirases, thou who knowest wide space — milk and ghee.
9.62.10 This Pavamāna, the all-seeing, placed here, grows wise; urged on, he impels the great watery ocean.
9.62.11 This vigorous Pavamāna, of vigorous vows, the destroyer of revilers, shall bestow riches on the worshipper.
9.62.12 Flow to us with thousandfold wealth, with cattle, with horses, with many splendours, much longed for.
9.62.13 This one is poured around, being well-cleansed by the living ones — far-ranging, of sage-wisdom.
9.62.14 He of a thousand streams, of a hundredfold gifts, the measurer of the firmament, the sage — this exhilaration flows for Indra.
9.62.15 Indu, born by the hymn, here praised, is placed for Indra — he fills the vessel as it were a dwelling-place.
9.62.16 Pavamāna Soma, pressed out by men, has run forth like a prize-winner, seating himself by his power in the bowls.
9.62.17 They yoke him to travel in the triple-backed, triple-fellied chariot, with the seven thoughts of the seers.
9.62.18 Speed him, the pressers, the touch-prize swift one, the tawny vigorous one, for travel and for the prize.
9.62.19 Entering the vessel when pressed, flowing around all glories, he stands like a hero among the cows.
9.62.20 For thy exhilaration, O Indu, the living ones milk out the milk; the gods bring sweetness for the gods.
9.62.21 Release Soma into the filter for us, most honey-sweet, most renowned among the gods for the gods.
9.62.22 These Somas have been poured forth, praised with the stream of him most exhilarating, for great glory.
9.62.23 Toward the cow-wealth for enjoyment, toward manly powers, thou purifiest thyself and flowest; O ever-prize-winner, flow around.
9.62.24 And flow to us with all nourishments rich in cows, with sounds everywhere resounding, praised by Jamadagni.
9.62.25 Flow pure, O Soma, foremost of utterances, with variegated aids, encompassing all poetic wisdom.
9.62.26 Thou foremost of the oceanic waters, stirring the hymns, flow purified, O mover of the universe.
9.62.27 These worlds, O sage Soma, stand for thy greatness; toward thee flow the rivers.
9.62.28 Thy streams go forth unceasing like rains from heaven, over the bright strewn grass.
9.62.29 Purify for Indra this fierce Indu, the instrument of the mighty one, the lord, the bestower of boons.
9.62.30 Pavamāna, the true, the sage, Soma, has settled on the filter, bestowing heroic might upon the praiser.
9.63.1 Flow to us, O Soma, with thousandfold wealth and heroic strength; pour upon us glories.
9.63.2 Thou dost swell with food and vigour, most exhilarating for Indra; thou sittest down in the bowls.
9.63.3 Soma, pressed out for Indra, for Viṣṇu, flows into the vessel; may he be sweet for Vāyu.
9.63.4 These swift tawny Soma-drops have been poured, crossing over the crooked places by the stream of truth.
9.63.5 They who increase Indra, the swift-moving ones, making all things noble, smiting away the niggardly.
9.63.6 The tawny Indus, pressed out, flowing toward their own domain, the drops of Soma go to Indra.
9.63.7 Flow with that stream by which thou didst make the sun to shine, urging on the human waters.
9.63.8 Pavamāna yoked the dapple steed upon Manu, to travel through the atmosphere.
9.63.9 Indu yoked also those ten tawny mares of the sun to travel, saying 'Indra'.
9.63.10 Pour around the pressed, exhilarating juice with hymns for Vāyu and Indra into the woollen strainers.
9.63.11 O Pavamāna Soma, find for us the irresistible wealth — that which is not to be consumed by the assailant.
9.63.12 Flow toward thousandfold wealth with cattle, with horses, toward the prize and glory.
9.63.13 Soma the god, like the sun, is purified by the stones when pressed, holding his juice in the vessel.
9.63.14 These bright, noble abodes have flowed with the stream of truth toward the prize rich in cattle.
9.63.15 Soma-drops pressed for Indra the thunderer, mixed with curd, have flowed beyond the filter.
9.63.16 Flow forth, O Soma most honey-sweet, through the filter toward wealth, O exhilaration most beloved by the gods.
9.63.17 The living ones cleanse him, the tawny prize-winning Indu, in the streams, the exhilarant for Indra.
9.63.18 Flow purified, O Soma, with gold, with horses, with heroes; bring us the prize rich in kine.
9.63.19 As one who wins prizes, pour the most honey-sweet one into the woollen strainers for Indra, around the prize.
9.63.20 The wise, seeking help, cleanse the sage, the one worthy of cleansing, with their thoughts; the vigorous one flows bellowing.
9.63.21 The inspired sages have sung together with thoughts and the stream of truth about the vigorous, swift-moving Soma.
9.63.22 Flow purified, O god-life-prolonger; let thy exhilaration go to Indra; mount upon Vāyu according to thy ordinance.
9.63.23 O Pavamāna Soma, thou dost pour out wealth worthy of renown; beloved, enter the ocean.
9.63.24 Flowing, thou smitest enemies, O Soma the exhilarant who knowest purpose; push away the godless folk.
9.63.25 The Pavamāna Soma-drops, bright Indus, have been poured forth encompassing all poetic wisdom.
9.63.26 The swift, bright Pavamāna Indus have been poured forth, smiting away all adversaries.
9.63.27 The Pavamānas have been poured from heaven, from the atmosphere, from above the earth upon the ridge.
9.63.28 Purifying thyself, O Soma, with thy stream, O Indu, drive away all failures; slay the demons, O excellent in purpose.
9.63.29 Smiting the demons, O Soma, flow forth bellowing, with thy loftiest brilliant vigour.
9.63.30 Pour upon us riches heavenly and earthly, O Soma, O Indu — all desirable things.
9.64.1 Thou art a vigorous bull, O Soma, full of brilliance; O god, a bull of virile vows; a bull thou holdest thy ordinances.
9.64.2 Thy virile strength is the strength of a bull; virile is thy love, virile thy exhilaration — truly, O bull, thou art a bull indeed.
9.64.3 Like a neighing stallion, O vigorous Indu, join the cows to us, join the steeds; open wide the doors of wealth for us.
9.64.4 The vigorous, bright, swift Soma-drops have been poured forth striving for cattle and horses and heroes.
9.64.5 Adorning themselves, being cleansed by the life-giving forces of truth by the hands of men, they flow through the undying woollen filter.
9.64.6 May those Somas — heavenly, earthly, and atmospheric — flow purified bringing all wealth to the worshipper.
9.64.7 O all-knowing Pavamāna, thy streams have been poured forth like the rays of the sun.
9.64.8 Making a banner over the sky, thou flowest around all forms; O Soma, thou swellest as the ocean.
9.64.9 Being urged on, thou impellest the hymn, O Pavamāna, in the course of thy ordinance; like the sun-god thou hast stepped forth.
9.64.10 Indu, the wise, beloved of sages, has entered the filter, releasing the steed with his thought like a charioteer.
9.64.11 Thy wave which, dear to gods, flows around through the filter, settling into the womb of truth.
9.64.12 Let that exhilaration, most beloved by the gods, flow to us through the filter, O Indu, for Indra to drink.
9.64.13 Flow for nourishment, O Indu, with thy stream, being cleansed by the wise; go with thy radiances to the cows.
9.64.14 Purifying thyself, O lover of song, create wide space and vigour for the people; O tawny one, releasing the mixed drink.
9.64.15 Purifying thyself for the delight of gods, go to Indra's place of purification, flashing with thy prize-winning steeds.
9.64.16 The swift Indus, being urged forward, sped toward the ocean, impelled by thought, poured forth.
9.64.17 The Indus, being well cleansed by the living ones, have freely gone to the ocean, entered the womb of truth.
9.64.18 Go around us, O thou who desirest us, with all riches by thy might; protect us with shelter rich in heroes.
9.64.19 The carrier-steed lows, as one who yokes himself with singers, when Soma is poured into the ocean.
9.64.20 When the swift one settles into the golden womb of truth, he abandons the unwise.
9.64.21 The wise ones, the discerning, follow the streams and sing beside them; the foolish are submerged.
9.64.22 O Indu, flow purified, most honey-sweet, for Indra with his Marut-host; settle in the womb of truth.
9.64.23 The inspired, wise, sapient ones adorn thee on all sides; the living ones cleanse thee together.
9.64.24 O sage, Mitra, Aryaman, Varuṇa, and the Maruts drink the juice of thee the Pavamāna.
9.64.25 Thou, O Soma, O Indu, purifying thyself, dost impel the wise speech of thousandfold bounty.
9.64.26 And bring to us, O Soma, O Indu, purifying thyself, the speech of thousandfold bounty, eager for sacrifice.
9.64.27 Purifying thyself, O Indu, beloved of these widely invoked peoples, enter the ocean.
9.64.28 With flashing, all-resounding radiance and with grace, the bright Soma-drops, blended with milk, shine forth.
9.64.29 Urged on, guided by the urgers, the vigorous prize-winner has stepped toward the prize, the drops settling like eager ones.
9.64.30 O Soma, flowing separately for well-being, the sage who comes together from heaven, flow purified to be seen as the sun.
9.65.1 The dawn-rays, like sisters of the same kin, urge on the great Indu, their lord, the mighty ones delighting in greatness.
9.65.2 O Pavamāna, with brilliance upon brilliance, O god, enter all riches from the gods.
9.65.3 O Pavamāna, bring us excellent praise, service to the gods, rain; flow purified, concentrated, for nourishment.
9.65.4 For thou art a vigorous bull with thy radiance; thee the brilliant one we invoke, O Pavamāna, excellent in thought.
9.65.5 Flow purified with heroic strength, rejoicing, O thou whose weapons are good; come here, O Indu, come.
9.65.6 When thou art sprinkled around with the waters, being cleansed by the hands, thou attainest the common seat in the wood.
9.65.7 Sing forth to Pavamāna Soma, like Vyaśva, to the great one of a thousand eyes.
9.65.8 They urge on with the stones the honey-dripping, tawny Indu whose colour gleams, for Indra to drink.
9.65.9 We, having won all the riches of thee the vigorous prize-winner, choose thy friendship.
9.65.10 Flow purified, O vigorous bull, with thy stream, O exhilarant, for him with his Maruts, bearing all things with strength.
9.65.11 I urge thee on, O Pavamāna, the sustainer of the well, the beholder of heaven, the prize-winning one in the contests.
9.65.12 With this flowing, wise stream, O tawny one, flow purified; urge on the yoke-fellow in the prizes.
9.65.13 Flow to us, O Indu, with great nourishment, thou the all-beautiful; O Soma, thou who knowest the way to us.
9.65.14 The vessels have resounded, O Indu; with thy streams and strength, enter for Indra to drink.
9.65.15 He whose pungent, exhilarating juice they milk out with the stones — flow pure, thou destroyer of assailants.
9.65.16 The King Pavamāna travels with his wisdom upon Manu, to journey through the atmosphere.
9.65.17 Bring to us, O Indu, the prosperity of a hundred cows, the possession of good horses; bring good fortune as an aid.
9.65.18 Bring to us, O Soma, pressed out for the delight of gods, strength and swiftness as form for brightness.
9.65.19 Flow, O Soma, most brilliant, roaring over the troughs, settling like a hawk into thy vessel.
9.65.20 Soma flows swiftly for Indra, for Vāyu, for Varuṇa, for the Maruts, for Viṣṇu.
9.65.21 Bestowing nourishment on our offspring, O Soma, from all sides, flow purified, thousandfold.
9.65.22 Those Soma-drops that are pressed in the distant region, those pressed in the near region, those pressed at the Śaryaṇāvat lake —
9.65.23 Those among the Ārjīkas, among the active ones, those in the midst of the homesteads, or those among the five peoples —
9.65.24 May those Indu-drops, the divine, when pressed, flow purified for us with rain from heaven and with heroic strength.
9.65.25 The lovely tawny one flows purified, praised by Jamadagni, being urged on upon the cow's skin.
9.65.26 The bright, life-giving drops, urged on like steeds, being mingled, cleanse themselves in the waters.
9.65.27 The powers present in the pressed draughts urge thee on for the service of the gods; flow purified with this radiance.
9.65.28 Today we choose thy power that brings happiness, the carrier that is guarded, the much-longed-for one.
9.65.29 The joyful, the excellent, the inspired, the wise, the guarded, the much-longed-for one we choose.
9.65.30 Wealth, clear consciousness, O excellent in purpose, within our own persons — the guarded, much-longed-for one we choose.
9.66.1 Flow purified, O thou who art seen by all, encompassing all poetic wisdom; thou art a friend to be praised by friends.
9.66.2 By those two dwelling-places of thine that stand facing, O Pavamāna, O Soma, thou reignest over the universe.
9.66.3 Around thy dwelling-places, O Soma thou art from all sides, O Pavamāna, O sage, with the seasons.
9.66.4 Flow purified, generating nourishments, encompassing all desirable things; be a friend to friends as an aid.
9.66.5 Thy bright rays spread the filter on the back of heaven, O Soma, with thy dwelling-places.
9.66.6 These seven rivers flow at thy command, O Soma; the milch-cows run to thee.
9.66.7 Go forth, O Soma, with thy stream, pressed and exhilarating for Indra, bearing imperishable glory.
9.66.8 The seven sister-streams have rung out together for thee with thoughts that urge thee, the inspired one born of Vivasvat.
9.66.9 The assembled ones cleanse thee together on the swift woollen strainer as thou art rubbed in the wood, O singer.
9.66.10 O sage, O prize-winner Pavamāna, thy currents have been poured, like steeds eager for glory.
9.66.11 Toward the honey-dripping vessel the prayers have bellowed out; the drops were poured into the undying woollen filter.
9.66.12 Toward the ocean the Indu-drops, like milch-cows going home, have entered the womb of truth.
9.66.13 For us, O Indu, in the great exhilaration, the waters flow like rivers when thou wilt clothe thyself with the rays of cattle.
9.66.14 We, longing to serve in this thy friendship, aided by thee, O Indu, desire thy companionship.
9.66.15 Flow purified for the winning of cattle, O great Soma, O thou seen by heroes; enter the belly of Indra.
9.66.16 Thou art great, O Soma, foremost among the mighty, O Indu, the most powerful; being a fighter thou hast conquered ever and again.
9.66.17 He who is mightier even than the mighty, more heroic even than heroes, more bountiful even than the greatly giving.
9.66.18 Thou, O Soma, art that sun for winning progeny and persons; we choose thee for friendship, we choose thee for fellowship.
9.66.19 O Agni, flowing pure, bestow upon us lives and vigour and nourishment; repel misfortune far from us.
9.66.20 Agni is the seer, Pavamāna, the household priest of the five peoples; we implore him who grants great wealth.
9.66.21 O Agni, flow purified, O excellent worker; bestow upon us brightness and heroic strength, placing wealth and prosperity in me.
9.66.22 Pavamāna flows over all foes toward excellent praise, like the sun, beautiful to all.
9.66.23 He, the Indu, being well-cleansed by the living ones, lavish of oblations, devoted to offering, the swift, the clear-sighted.
9.66.24 Pavamāna has generated the great truth, the bright light; he has struck down the black darknesses.
9.66.25 From Pavamāna the striking tawny one, brilliant swift streams have been poured, gleaming with swift radiance.
9.66.26 Pavamāna is the best charioteer, most beautifully praised by the bright ones, tawny and brilliant, having the Marut hosts.
9.66.27 Pavamāna has pervaded with his rays, most winning of prizes, bestowing heroic might upon the praiser.
9.66.28 The pressed Indu, the axle, has flowed beyond the undying filter; Indu, purifying himself, goes to Indra.
9.66.29 This Soma sports upon the skin of the cows with the stones, calling upon Indra for exhilaration.
9.66.30 With that bright milk of thine, O Pavamāna, brought from heaven, be gracious to us that we may live.
9.67.1 Thou, O Soma, art the sustainer, joyful, most mighty at the sacrifice; flow purified, thou who givest wealth freely.
9.67.2 Thou, pressed out, gladdening men, most swift-running, most exhilarating, art the wise one for Indra with thy food.
9.67.3 Thou, well-pressed by the stones, flow forth bellowing with thy loftiest brilliant vigour.
9.67.4 Indu, being urged on, flows through the undying woollen strainers; the tawny one has bellowed for the prize.
9.67.5 O Indu, thou flowest through the wool, through glories, through prosperities; O Soma, through prizes rich in cattle.
9.67.6 Bring to us, O Indu, O Soma, wealth of a hundred kinds rich in kine and horses, thousandfold.
9.67.7 The swift Pavamāna Indus, through the filter, have reached Indra with their courses.
9.67.8 The eminent Soma-juice, Indu the ancient, flows purified for Indra; life flows for the living.
9.67.9 The dawn-rays urge on the honey-dripping Pavamāna; they have sung together with their hymn.
9.67.10 May Pūṣan, the protector with his goat-team, at every journey, partake of the Soma-drink among our maidens.
9.67.11 This Soma flows like ghee, sweet, for Rudra with his braided hair; may he partake among our maidens.
9.67.12 This pressed juice of thine, O radiant one, flows purified like ghee; may he partake among our maidens.
9.67.13 Thou art the source of the utterances of the seers; flow, O Soma, with thy stream; among the gods thou art the bestower of treasure.
9.67.14 He runs into the vessels, like a hawk cleaving through the armour, bellowing over the troughs.
9.67.15 Around and forth thy juice, O Soma, pressed out, has been released into the vessel; like a hawk that is rubbed clean, he flows.
9.67.16 Flow purified, O Soma, gladdening, most honey-sweet, for Indra.
9.67.17 They have been poured for the delight of gods, striving for prizes like chariots.
9.67.18 Those pressed drops, most exhilarating, bright, have been poured for Vāyu.
9.67.19 Struck by the pressing-stone, praised on all sides, O Soma, thou goest to the filter, bestowing heroic might upon the praiser.
9.67.20 This one, struck and praised on all sides, plunges through the filter, the demon-slayer through the undying woollen strainer.
9.67.21 Whatever fear finds me here, whether near or far, O Pavamāna, strike that away.
9.67.22 May that Pavamāna, the all-seeing, today purify us with the filter; he who is the Potṛ-priest, may he purify us.
9.67.23 With that filter of thine, O Agni, which is spread within thy flame, with that brahman-prayer purify us.
9.67.24 With that filter of thine, O Agni, that is bright as flame, purify us; with thy sacred stimulations purify us.
9.67.25 O god Savitṛ, with both the filter and the divine impulse, purify me on all sides.
9.67.26 O god Savitṛ, purify us with thy three highest Soma-dwelling-places; O Agni, purify us with thy powers.
9.67.27 May the divine folk purify me; may the Vasus purify me with thought; O all ye gods, purify me; O Jātavedas, purify me.
9.67.28 Swell forth, flow forth, O Soma, with all thy shoots; thou art the highest oblation for the gods.
9.67.29 We have come to the dear, glittering youth who grows great with oblations, bearing him reverence.
9.67.30 The axe of the Alāyya has perished — cleanse away that, O divine Soma; even the rat's mischief, O divine Soma.
9.67.31 Whoever reads through the Pāvamānī hymns — the juice assembled by the seers — all of it he eats purified and made savory by Mātariśvan.
9.67.32 Whoever reads through the Pāvamānī hymns — the juice assembled by the seers — for him Sarasvatī milks out milk, clarified butter, and honeyed water.
9.68.1 Toward the god, the honey-laden Indu-drops have hissed forth; the cows have come to us like milch-cows; seated on the sacred grass, endowed with utterance, the dawn-cows have set in order the filtered stream with their udders as its lustrous garment.
9.68.2 He, bellowing, cried out over the former ones; mounting up, the tawny one sounding sweet loosens himself; moving around through the filter, covering vast extents, the god lays down the shaft-wounds and chooses the best.
9.68.3 He who measures out, though twin-born, the exhilaration when the two flow together, swelling with milk that grows together and is imperishable — he who knows widely the two great, boundless firmaments, striding forward, has taken up the imperishable vigour.
9.68.4 He, roaming between the two mothers, making the waters prize-winning, the wise one swells his track by his own power; the stalk adorned with grain, directed by men, reaches together with his own kindred and guards the head.
9.68.5 With energy and thought the sage is born, the embryo of truth placed beyond the twins; though both being young, they first knew each other — the birth hidden in the secret place is not this one uplifted here.
9.68.6 The wise ones have recognised the form of the joyful one, when the falcon brought the food from afar; him they cleanse — the stalk that grows well in the rivers, that is eager and hymn-worthy, moving around.
9.68.7 The ten maidens cleanse thee, O Soma, pressed out, set in place by seers with their thoughts and insights, both with woollen strainers and with divine invocations; directed by men, thou shalt burst forth the prize for the winning.
9.68.8 The sacred utterances have sung beside Soma who moves around pervasively, well-seated and fitting to be borne — he who with his stream, his honey-sweet wave from heaven, the immortal one rich in wealth, sets the hymn in motion.
9.68.9 This Soma sets the whole firmament in motion from heaven, purifying himself, he settles in the vessels; pressed and cleansed with waters, cows, and stones, the Indu purifying himself shall find wide space and the beloved.
9.68.10 Even thus, O Soma, as thou art poured around, flow purified, bestowing most wonderful vigour upon us; without hostility may we invoke Heaven and Earth; O gods, bestow upon us wealth with heroic sons.
9.69.1 As an arrow is set to the bow, as a calf is loosed to the mother's udder, so thought is set in place; like a wide-flowing one it is milked when it comes at the beginning; in his rites Soma too is set in motion.
9.69.2 To it thought is mingled, the sweet drink is poured, the joyful, life-giving one is set in motion from within the seat; Pavamāna the continuous one, the honey-sweet drop like one who crushes the host, flows around the strainer.
9.69.3 He who seeks his bride flows purified over the skin of the sheep; the granddaughters of Aditi loosen themselves when truth is set in motion; the tawny worshipful one has strode forward; the exhilaration, contained and whetting his manly power, shines like a great bull.
9.69.4 The bull lows; the milch-cows go toward him; the divine females of the god approach his place of purification; Soma has stepped over the white undying woollen strainer, wrapping himself around it like a garment being washed.
9.69.5 With his unspotted, gleaming garment, the immortal tawny one, displaying his lustrous robe, wraps himself around; the back of heaven, prepared as a strewing for his bright garment, is the misty bottom of the bowls.
9.69.6 Like rays of the sun, the exhilarating, well-running drops move in company about the stretched thread; the swift currents flow around it — without Indra, not a single ordinance is purified.
9.69.7 Like swift ones in the descent of a river, the exhilarations poured by the bull from the deep have entered their path; be there welfare for us in the dwelling of bipeds and quadrupeds; O Soma, may prizes and cultivated fields stand firm for us.
9.69.8 Flow to us with wealth, with gold, with horses, with cattle, with grain, with heroic strength; for you are indeed, O Soma, my fathers — the heads of heaven, come forth bestowing vigour.
9.69.9 These Pavamāna Soma-drops, when pressed, have gone like chariots toward Indra for the winning; they pass beyond the woollen filter, the tawny ones abandoning the covering go toward the rain.
9.69.10 O Indu, flow purified for great Indra, bountiful, blameless, devouring rivals; bring shining riches for the praiser; O gods, may Heaven and Earth protect us.
9.70.1 Thrice the seven milch-cows milked for him the true mixed drink in the primeval sky; he made the other four worlds beautiful as his lustrous garment when he grew great through the laws of truth.
9.70.2 He who begs for the beautiful immortality has split apart both heavens with his poetic power; he wraps himself around the sharpest waters with bounty — when they know the dwelling of the divine one by his fame.
9.70.3 May his tokens be immortal, undeceivable, following along both births; with which they purify both manly power and the divine, and with their thoughts they have grasped the king thereafter.
9.70.4 Being cleansed by ten well-working ones, he runs forward, accompanying them among the middle mothers at the first station; he who has drunk of the beautiful immortality, the hero-seer, surveys both the wide expanses.
9.70.5 Being well-cleansed for Indra's power and for nourishment, he, placed in his seat, rejoices toward both ends of Heaven and Earth; the vigorous bull with his vigour drives away evil thoughts, directing them apart like a bowman driving forth his arrows.
9.70.6 He, the bright one, going without seeing his two mothers, roars as he goes like the sound of the Maruts; knowing the truth, what was at first the sunlit way, the one of excellent purpose has chosen it for his own glory.
9.70.7 The terrible bull roars with his strength, sharpening his two horns, the clear-sighted tawny one; Soma the well-made sits down in his seat — the cow-skin becomes his bright garment, the woollen fleece his lustrous vesture.
9.70.8 The pure one, purifying his spotless body, the tawny one has run down upon the ridge of the fleece; beloved by Mitra, Varuṇa, and Vāyu, the threefold sweet drink is made by the well-working ones.
9.70.9 Flow pure, O Soma, for the delight of gods, O vigorous bull; enter the soma-vessel that is the heart of Indra; before adversity presses upon us carry us across the evil; for the knower of the field declares the directions to him who asks.
9.70.10 Like a harnessed steed flow toward the prize, O Indu; flow purified into the belly of Indra; like a ship carry us across the flood, O knowing one; like a hero fighting, strike down those who blame us.
9.71.1 Forth to the right the mighty one is set free, going to the seat; the ever-wakeful one wards off the demons, the haters. The tawny one makes his couch upon the sky, upon the milk; he lays sacred prayer in the two bowls for adornment.
9.71.2 Like a ploughman's team he goes forward bellowing; he strips away that dark color, his own. He casts off his fleece and goes to the father's pure realm; he adorns his body with the streaming robe of cleansing.
9.71.3 Pressed by the stones, he flows pure from the two arms; he shows his manly power, he trembles with inspired thought in the sky. He rejoices, he attains, he accomplishes with song; he purifies himself in the waters, he makes offering around about.
9.71.4 They pour him round about, that child of heaven, nurtured by the mountain, son of strength, the sweetness, the guardian of the mansion; in whom the cows, at the well-fed udder, anoint his first portion on his head with their abundant streams.
9.71.5 The ten sisters, in the lap of Aditi, have together harnessed him as a chariot from the two sides without flaw. He wins near, he reaches the secret place of the cow — that station which the inspired ones brought forth for him.
9.71.6 Like a falcon he approaches the golden womb, the dwelling made by wisdom, the divine seat. They set in motion the beloved one on the sacred grass with song; like a horse he comes to the gods — the one worthy of worship.
9.71.7 Forth, fully revealed, the tawny sage of heaven, the bull of triple ridges, has gone and won the cows. The impulse with a thousand paths, going forward beyond, shines bright over all the dawns like a chanting singer.
9.71.8 He makes his form dazzling — his hue, wherever he lay hidden, drives away the scorners when gathered. With his own power he goes through the waters to the divine folk; together he attains with good praise, together with the foremost cows.
9.71.9 Like a bull going round herds he has bellowed out; he has taken on the brilliances of the sun. The divine fair-winged one looks down upon the earth; Soma beholds all beings round about with wisdom.
9.72.1 They cleanse the tawny one; like the ruddy one he is yoked; Soma is anointed in the jar together with the milch-cows. He raises his voice, he is urged by inspired thought — how beloved he is, the widely praised one, to some!
9.72.2 Together many inspired ones declare when they have milked Soma into the belly of Indra. When skilled-handed men cleanse the desirable honey with the ten that share one nest.
9.72.3 Not lingering, he goes beyond toward the cows, across the cry of the dear daughter of the sun. The Vinaṅgṛsa brought favor along to him; he dwells together with the sisters, the paired kindred ones.
9.72.4 Shaken by men, pressed by stones, beloved on the sacred grass, the lord of the cows, from of old, the drop, moving in season, rich in plenteousness, accomplishing the sacrifice of Manu — O Soma, pure by inspiration, you flow, O Indra, for you.
9.72.5 Urged by the arms of men, poured out in a stream, O Soma, you flow for Indra in proper order, O Indra, for you. You have filled the rites; together with the unslain ones at the ceremony, the tawny one with inspired thoughts has settled, like a bird, upon the two bowls.
9.72.6 The inspired, active seers milk the roaring, inexhaustible, wise stalk. Together the inspired thoughts and the cows go, harnessed, in the birthplace of Truth, returning again to their seat.
9.72.7 The foundation of the earth, the support of the great sky, sprinkled within the flood of the waters, within the rivers — Indra's bolt, the bull of wide-spreading wealth: Soma, the gladdening one, flows sweet to the heart.
9.72.8 Flow then round about the earthly realm, giving delight to the singer and to the one who shakes you, O wise one! Let us not be excluded from wealth that touches the divine seat; may we clothe ourselves in plentiful, golden riches.
9.72.9 Come, O Indu, give us a hundred-fold gift of horses, a thousandfold gift, rich in cattle and gold. Approach us with great and bountiful refreshments; for the praise, O Pavamāna, come to us.
9.73.1 Together they have roared at the sides of the swelling drop; the naves of Truth have come together in its womb. He, the Asura, has grasped the three heads at their joint; the ships of Truth have ferried across the well-made deed.
9.73.2 Fully together, the great bulls roared in unison; on the wave of the river the inspired ones made the reeds tremble. Generating with streams of honey the very song, they have made grow Indra's dear body.
9.73.3 Those possessed of the purifying sieve sit round about the speech; the ancient father guards their vow. Varuṇa has set himself across the great ocean; only the steadfast ones have found their grip on the foundations.
9.73.4 Together they have roared down to you at the thousandfold stream, the honey-tongued ones who do not cease, on the vault of heaven. His spies, the vigorous ones, do not shut their eyes; step by step there are noose-bearing guards.
9.73.5 Those who have roared together toward father and mother, blazing with sacred verse, burning up the lawless — they blow away by their power the dark skin, hateful to Indra, from all around the expanse of heaven.
9.73.6 Those who have roared together from of old by measure, the thought-movers of the vehement one, drivers of song — those with nostrils stopped, the deaf ones, have laughed; the evil-doers do not cross the path of Truth.
9.73.7 In the far-stretched, thousandfold filter, the seers, the inspired ones, purify the speech. The spies of these, Rudras, swift and unharmful, beautifully moving, fair to see, watching over men.
9.73.8 The guardian of Truth, the one of good resolve, not to be deceived, has placed the three filters in his heart within. Knowing, he looks upon all beings; he pierces the lawless, the ungratified, into the pit.
9.73.9 The thread of Truth is stretched out in the filter, at the tip of Varuṇa's tongue, by his wisdom. Even the steadfast ones strive to attain it — there the one without mastery falls down into the pit.
9.74.1 Like a newborn child he has roared out in the wood, when the tawny swift one seeks to win the sun. He follows after with the seed of heaven, growing with milk; we implore him, of good will, for broad-spreading shelter.
9.74.2 He who is the pillar and foundation of heaven, self-stretched, the filled stalk that goes round about on every side — he will worship the two great worlds covered all around; the wise one has held together in the pair, the refreshments.
9.74.3 Great is the well-made somalike sweetness, the wide pasture-land of Aditi, where Truth is reached. He who rules the rain from here, the tawny bull, the leader of the waters from here — the one fortified from here, worthy of the hymn.
9.74.4 The self-containing cloud is milked of its ghee and milk; the navel of Truth, the immortal one, is born. The like-minded, the bountiful ones, gratify him; men of good will shower down their gift upon him.
9.74.5 The stalk has cried out, accompanied by the wave; it swells the divine skin for Manu. It places the embryo in the lap of Aditi, through which we sustain our offspring and our progeny.
9.74.6 Those unceasing streams at the thousandfold flow — may they be rich in offspring in the third realm. The four navels fixed below the sky carry the oblation, the immortal, the ghee-dripping ones.
9.74.7 He makes a white form when he sets out to win it; Soma, the rain-giving Asura, knows the fullness. With wisdom he accompanies effort, so that he speaks forth; he bursts the cloud-barrel of the sky that swells above.
9.74.8 Then the swift one, victor, has stepped into the white bowl anointed with cows, in the dark soil. Those who desire the gods have urged him forward with their minds, for Kakṣīvat of the hundred winters, with the cows.
9.74.9 O Soma mixed with the waters, your juice runs through the sheep's-wool filter, O Pavamāna. When cleansed by the seers, make yourself most gladdening and sweet for Indra to drink, O Pavamāna.
9.75.1 The swift one, dear-impelled, flows forth through the beloved names in which he grows. The great one has mounted the wide chariot of the great sun, going in all directions, the far-seeing one.
9.75.2 The tongue of Truth flows with sweet, beloved honey; the lord of this thought is the speaker, not to be deceived. The son places the secret name, the third, upon the shining realm of heaven.
9.75.3 Gleaming, he has roared out at the bowls, controlled by men in the golden vessel. Toward him the milking vessels of Truth have resounded; he shines out over the dawns upon the triple back.
9.75.4 Pressed by the stones, dear-impelled by inspired thoughts, illuminating the two divine mothers, pure; the stream of honey, swelling, flows daily through the wool of the sheep.
9.75.5 Flow around for our welfare, O Soma; cleansed by men, clothe yourself with the admixture. Those exhilarations of yours that are loosening and soaring — with them urge Indra to give bounty.
9.76.1 The supporter of heaven, the active juice, flows pure — the power of the gods, to be gladdened by men. The tawny one, let loose like a steed by the strong, freely displays his might in the rivers.
9.76.2 Like a hero grasping weapons in his two fists, the chariot-warrior who seeks the sun in the combats for cattle — stirring the vigor of Indra with active ones, the drop, urged forward, is anointed by the inspired ones.
9.76.3 O Soma Pavamāna, enter into the bellies of Indra with your wave, growing mighty. Swell us; like lightning and a rain-cloud, the two worlds — come to us eternally with prizes through inspired thought.
9.76.4 The king of all, heaven-seeing, flows pure; the seer-lord has caused the vision of Truth to shine. He who is wiped with the ray of the sun, the father of inspired thoughts — his genius none can equal.
9.76.5 Like a bull through herds, you rush round the bowl, a bull roaring in the lap of the waters. You flow most intoxicating for Indra, so that, aided by you, we may win in the encounter.
9.77.1 Here in the bowl the honey-bearing one has roared out, Indra's bolt, more wondrous than wonders. Toward him the richly-milking, ghee-dripping cows of Truth stream like milk-cows lowing.
9.77.2 That ancient one flows pure, whom the falcon churned forth from heaven, sent across the air. Trembling, he mingles with the sweetness — quivering, fearful in his mind, from the archer's missile.
9.77.3 May these drops, earlier and later, flow to us for great prize-wealth rich in cattle. Beautiful to look upon, moving like serpents, those who have delighted in every sacred prayer, in every oblation.
9.77.4 This drop, knowing, shall win and shall be won, with continuous mind, the widely praised. He who has placed the embryo in the abode of the strong one rushes toward the wide byre of the cows.
9.77.5 The active juice of heaven flows pure, the great Varuṇa, undeceivable, going around. Mitra has been pressed, worthy of worship in the communities; like a steed in the herd, the lusty one roars forth.
9.78.1 The king, generating speech, pours forth, clothed in waters he goes to worship the cows. He seizes impurity, which becomes manifest in his body; pure, he goes to the cleansing of the gods.
9.78.2 For Indra, O Soma, you are poured around by men; the wave that watches over men, the wise one, you are anointed in the wood. For many streams of yours are there to flow — a thousand tawny horses sitting at the trough.
9.78.3 The Apsarasas of the ocean, the inspired ones, sitting within, have streamed toward Soma. They urge him, the guardian of the mansion; they implore the inexhaustible Pavamāna for his favor.
9.78.4 Soma flows for us, winner of cows, winner of chariots, winner of gold, winner of the sun, winner of the waters, winner of thousands — he whom the gods have made as the intoxication to drink, the sweetest drop, the ruddy, the well-being-bestowing.
9.78.5 These true treasures, O Soma Pavamāna, longing for us, you flow making real. Slay the enemy near and far, and make for us the wide pasture-land and freedom from fear.
9.79.1 May the unsolicited drops flow wealth to us, the pressed tawny ones in the great heavens. And may the hostile forces not reach our refreshments; may the strangers perish; may our inspired thoughts win through.
9.79.2 May the drops, excitement-dripping, flow wealth to us — prizes with which we may urge on the horse. Past whatever mortal's crooked plotting, may we gather riches at every turn.
9.79.3 For even from one's own side comes a miser — he is truly the enemy; and from another's side comes the wolf — he is truly the hostile one. Like thirst on a desert they have converged; smite them, O Soma Pavamāna, you of wicked designs against us!
9.79.4 In heaven is your highest navel from which he took you; upon the ridge of the earth your shoots have grown. The stones swallow you upon the cow's hide; in the waters the inspired ones have milked you with their hands.
9.79.5 Thus the foremost beauties press your fair, well-formed juice, O Indu. Each reproach, O Pavamāna, do you overcome; may your vigor be manifest, may your exhilaration be beloved.
9.80.1 The stream of Soma, watching over men, flows pure; with Truth he calls the gods from all around heaven. With the roar of Bṛhaspati it flashes apart; like oceans the pressings have spread wide.
9.80.2 You whom the inviolable milch-cows have praised together, O swift one — mounting the unharmed womb, bright with light, lengthening out the life of the bountiful ones, bearing great glory — you flow, O Soma, the bull-like exhilaration for Indra.
9.80.3 He flows, most intoxicating, into the bellies of Indra, clothed in vigor for glory, of great good omen. Facing all beings round about, he has spread himself; the tawny steed, playing, the bull, streams forth.
9.80.4 You, the most honey-sweet for the gods — the ten fingers milk you, of thousandfold stream, O men. Set in motion by men, O Soma, pressed by the press-stones, flow to all the gods, O thousandfold conqueror.
9.80.5 You, honey-bearing, the bull — the ten nimble fingers milk you with the press-stones in the waters. Gladdening Indra and the divine folk, O Soma, O Pavamāna, you rush like the wave of a river.
9.81.1 The streams of Soma Pavamāna, beautifully formed, flow onward into the belly of Indra; when lifted up with curds and the glorious milk of cows, the pressings have exhilarated the hero, making him fit to give gifts.
9.81.2 For Soma streams straight into the vessels, the bull, like a swiftly-running chariot horse of light gait; knowing both classes of the gods' offspring, he attains what lies there and what lies here.
9.81.3 O Soma Pavamāna, pour wealth upon us; O Indu, be bountiful, a lord of great bounty; instruct the life-increasing Vasu with good counsel; spill not our household goods far away from us.
9.81.4 Let Pūṣan, Pavamāna of good gifts, come to us, and Mitra, Varuṇa of one accord; Bṛhaspati, the Maruts, Vāyu, the Aśvins, Tvaṣṭṛ, Savitṛ well-guiding, and Sarasvatī.
9.81.5 Both Heaven and Earth, all-encompassing, Aryaman the god, Aditi the establisher, Bhaga, Nṛśaṁsa, broad Antarikṣa — may all the gods delight in Soma Pavamāna.
9.82.1 Soma the ruddy bull has been pressed, with his two tawny steeds; the skilled one has bellowed toward the cows like a king; purifying himself, he passes around the eternal woolen filter and, like a falcon, has settled into his ghee-rich seat.
9.82.2 O sage, you encompass the great ordinance of the wise creator; like a groomed race horse you rush toward the prize; driving away sin, O Soma, be gracious; clothed in ghee, you move around your splendid garment.
9.82.3 Parjanya is the father of the leafy bull; his abode is established on the mountains, at earth's navel; the sister-waters have flowed about the cows; at the desired sacrifice he meets with the pressing stones.
9.82.4 Like a wife bestowing dear gifts upon her husband, hear me, O embryo of the Pajra clan — I speak to you; move well among the praises for good living; O Soma, blameless, awaken in the assembly.
9.82.5 As you have been unwearying for our forebears, winning hundreds and thousands, go forth to the prize, O Indu; so now flow for our new well-being; the waters follow your ordinance.
9.83.1 Your purifying strainer is spread wide, O Lord of Sacred Speech; the mighty one, you pass around all limbs on every side; one whose body is untested does not attain that — only those who are fully prepared, bearing it, come together to that goal.
9.83.2 The purifying strainer of the glowing one is spread wide at heaven's station; his blazing threads have spread out; the swift ones stand on the back of heaven with understanding, helping his purifier.
9.83.3 The dappled, firstborn one has blazed forth from the Dawns; the bull, eager for prizes, bears the worlds; the wise ones measured him out with his own creative power; the seers, the fathers, have placed the embryo.
9.83.4 The Gandharva guards his station thus and, wondrous, protects the births of the gods; the lord of treasuries seizes the enemy with a snare; the most skilled ones have partaken of the portion of the honey.
9.83.5 Rich in oblations, wearing the great divine seat like a garment, you traverse the sacrifice clothed in cloud; O King whose chariot is the strainer, you have mounted the prize; O Soma of a thousand points, you win great glory.
9.84.1 Flow and purify yourself, O gladdener of gods, far-perceiving, watery one, for Indra, for Varuṇa, for Vāyu; make ample and blessed space for us today; in the broad dwelling, laud the divine folk.
9.84.2 He who, immortal, has stood within the worlds — Soma streams around all of them; making the assembled into separate streams for the conqueror, Indu cleaves to the Dawn as the Sun does.
9.84.3 He who is mingled with the cows, let loose into the plants, sending forth the grace of the gods — the dear guest; Soma, pressed, flows with his stream bright as lightning, gladdening Indra and the divine folk.
9.84.4 This Soma flows purifying himself, winning thousands, stimulating the swift speech that awakens at dawn; Indu, stirred up by the wind-forces, raises up the ocean and sits in the vessels at Indra's heart.
9.84.5 The cows adorn with milk that Soma who grows strong with milk and wins the heavenly light through prayers; the sap that wins wealth flows, efficacious; the inspired seer, the poet, is adorned with poetic wisdom.
9.85.1 O Soma, well-pressed, flow around for Indra; let disease depart along with the Rakṣas; may the two-faced ones not enjoy your juice; let the drops that bring wealth be here among us.
9.85.2 O Pavamāna, spur us on in battle; you are the skill of the gods, their beloved exhilaration; smite the enemies who come to provoke; drink the Soma, O Indra, and crush our foes.
9.85.3 O Indu, most exhilarating, undeceived, you flow and become Indra's own highest abode; many inspired thinkers sing to you in praise and touch the king of this world.
9.85.4 A thousand-pathed, hundred-streamed, wondrous Indu flows for Indra with the desirable honey; winning the field, stream toward it, winning the waters — O generous Soma, make broad space for our path.
9.85.5 Roaring loudly, you are anointed with the cows' milk in the vessel; you stream evenly through the eternal woolen strainer; being polished like a victorious horse, O Soma, you flow together into Indra's belly.
9.85.6 Flow sweet for the divine birth; flow sweet for Indra of the good invocation name; flow sweet for Mitra, for Varuṇa, for Vāyu; O inviolable one rich in honey, for Bṛhaspati.
9.85.7 Ten fingers polish the steed in the vessel; the inspired thoughts of the sages send forth their voices; the purifying drops rush toward the fine praise and enter Indra, the intoxicating Indus.
9.85.8 O Pavamāna, stream forth with heroic power, broad cattle-pasture, great shelter that spreads wide; let no one be master of this pressing against us — O Indu, may we conquer wealth upon wealth with you.
9.85.9 The far-seeing bull has mounted to the sky; the seer has blazed forth, illuminating heaven's luminous regions; the King whose chariot is the strainer passes onward, roaring; the seers of men milk the nectar of heaven.
9.85.10 Honey-tongued, incessant, on the vault of heaven the loving ones milk the bull dwelling on the mountains; in the waters, the drop waxing strong in the ocean, in the wave of the river — the honey-sweet one in the strainer.
9.85.11 Unto the fair-winged bird that has flown to the vault of heaven, many songs of the devotees have lamented; the thoughts lick the ever-moving child, the golden bird standing upon the earth.
9.85.12 Erect, the Gandharva has stood upon the vault of heaven, beholding all his forms; the Sun blazed forth with his bright, radiant light; the pure one has shone forth, illuminating both parents, Heaven and Earth.
9.86.1 O Pavamāna, your swift, thought-impelled exhilarations stream forth of themselves like light-born drops; the heavenly, fair-winged, honey-sweet Indus, most exhilarating, settle around the vessel.
9.86.2 Your exhilarations, intoxicating and swift, have been sent forth separately like chariot horses; like a cow with milk to her calf, the sweet honey-waves of Indus go toward Indra the wielder of the bolt.
9.86.3 Like a swift horse urged onward, rush toward the prize, the heaven-knowing vessel, the mountain-born child of the sky; the bull Soma, purifying himself on the back of the eternal strainer, flows for Indra's sake.
9.86.4 O Pavamāna, your swift, thought-impelled, heavenly streams connected to the Aśvins have been poured forth with milk as their sustaining force; the sages, the ancient ones, have been sent out, who wipe you clean, O seeker of seers, O wise ordainer.
9.86.5 O all-seeing one, O skilful one, the rays of you who truly exist, the mighty one, go all around all stations; having pervaded all, you flow, O Soma, by your ordinances; you reign as lord of the entire world.
9.86.6 The rays of Pavamāna go on both sides; the beams of the steadfast, true one pass all around; when the tawny one is wiped upon the strainer, he, truly existing, sits down in his proper home, the vessels.
9.86.7 The banner of sacrifice, the author of the good rite, flows and purifies himself; Soma goes to the purifying place of the gods; the bull of a thousand streams rushes around the vessel and passes over the strainer, bellowing.
9.86.8 The king, the rivers, plunges into the ocean; dwelling in the streams, he follows the wave of the waters; Pavamāna has mounted the eternal back — the sustainer of the great heaven at earth's navel.
9.86.9 He has thundered and cried out like the ridge of heaven; Heaven and Earth are his by his own ordinances; recognizing Indra's friendship, Soma flows, purifying himself, and sits in the vessels.
9.86.10 The light of sacrifice, the dear honey, flows; the father of the gods, the procreator, rich in manifold wealth, places the hidden treasure in both the self-offering vessels; the most exhilarating, inebriating, potent juice.
9.86.11 Roaring as he rushes toward the vessel, the far-seeing prize-winner and lord of heaven, of a hundred streams; the tawny bull sits in Mitra's abodes, being polished with the sheep-wool and the rivers.
9.86.12 Pavamāna flows foremost among the rivers; foremost of speech, he goes first among the cows; he partakes of the great prize, the foremost treasure; the bull, self-armed, is purified by the pressers.
9.86.13 This one, swift as an inspired bird that is set free, has coursed with his wave through the wool, O Pavamāna; by your own will, O sage, in the space between the two worlds, pure, he flows with insight — O Soma, for you, Indra.
9.86.14 Wearing his mantle, the adorable one that touches heaven, filling the atmosphere, fixed in the worlds; born from the sun, he strides through the sky; he seeks to honor his ancient father.
9.86.15 He grants great shelter to that person of his who has first attained his station; when his footstep is in the highest heaven, from there he comes together toward all things, well-ordered.
9.86.16 Indu has gone forward to Indra's purifying place; like a friend he does not violate his comrade's compact; like a young man he streams together with the young women — Soma in the vessel, by the path of a hundred courses.
9.86.17 Your thoughts, joyful, eloquent, and admirable, have stridden forth in their shared dwelling-places; they have sung to Soma with understanding, with their praises; the milk-cows have caused the milk to flow toward him.
9.86.18 O Soma, O Indu, flow pure as Pavamāna and bring to us the gathered, swollen food that never fails — she who milks for us thrice a day without ceasing: the food rich in grain, rich in prizes, rich in honey, and rich in heroes.
9.86.19 The bull, far-seeing, flows among the inspired thoughts; Soma, the extender of days, of dawns, of heaven; active, he has called out to the vessels of the rivers, entering into Indra's heart with the wise seers.
9.86.20 The ancient sage flows through the inspired thinkers, has roared around the vessels, yoked by men; bringing forth the name of Trita, he drips with honey — to make the friendship of Indra and Vāyu.
9.86.21 This one, purifying himself, has lit up the Dawns; this one has become the world-maker for the rivers; this one, having milked out the mixed drink three times seven, the charming, inebriating Soma flows for the heart.
9.86.22 Flow pure, O Soma, in the divine stations; O Indu, being released into the vessel on the strainer; sitting in Indra's belly, roaring, yoked by men — you have caused the sun to rise in the sky.
9.86.23 Pressed by the stones, you flow, O Indu, into the strainer, entering into Indra's bellies; you became the far-seeing seer of men, O Soma, and you opened the cow-pen for the Aṅgiras seers.
9.86.24 You, O Soma Pavamāna, the well-thinking inspired singers have exhilarated in succession, seeking your aid; you, O Indu, the fair-winged eagle has brought from beyond heaven, adorned with all hymns.
9.86.25 Being purified in the woolen strainer with its wave, the seven milk-cows sing and flow toward the tawny one; above the lap of the waters, the inspired men lowed to the sage, the great bull in Ṛta's womb.
9.86.26 Indu, purifying himself, plunges through hostilities, making all paths good for the worshipper; the desirable sage, making his garment of cows, plays like a swift horse and streams around the strainer.
9.86.27 Ceaseless, hundred-streamed, glorious — those wave-like waters chant to the tawny one and flow down; the ten fingers polish him, wrapped round with the cows' milk, upon the third ridge, at heaven's shining region.
9.86.28 These creatures are your offspring from the divine seed; you reign over the entire world; so now all this universe, O Pavamāna, is in your will; you, O Indu, are the first, the setter of foundations.
9.86.29 You are the ocean, O all-knowing sage; these five regions are yours in your ordinance; you have overpowered both heaven and earth; O Pavamāna, the lights, the Sun, are yours.
9.86.30 O Soma Pavamāna, you are purified in the strainer for the gods, by the ordinance of the world-space; the Uśij seers first grasped you; for your sake all these worlds have been ordered.
9.86.31 The chanter comes forward, passing through the eternal strainer; the tawny bull has bellowed downward in the forests; the devotional thoughts, lowing in longing, have sung in harmony; the inspired thoughts lick the ever-moving child.
9.86.32 He, wrapped round by the rays of the sun, weaves his thread as if making a triple braid; leading the newest commandments of Ṛta, the lord of women goes to the place of purification.
9.86.33 The king of the rivers, the lord of heaven, flows and purifies himself, going on the paths of Ṛta, roaring; the tawny one of a thousand streams is poured around; purifying himself, bringing forth speech, he is the dear guest.
9.86.34 O Pavamāna, you run through the great flood, brilliant as the sun, through the eternal ones, with your purifying wheel; purified by the hands, pressed by men with stones, you speed for the great prize, for abundant wealth.
9.86.35 O Pavamāna, you stream toward refreshment and sustenance; like a falcon you sit in the vessels upon the summit; the pressed-out exhilaration, the inebriating joy, is for Indra — you are the foremost pillar of heaven, the far-seeing one.
9.86.36 The seven sister-mothers flow toward the newborn child, the praiseworthy, wise one; the Gandharva of the waters, heavenly, the seer of men — Soma, to reign over the entire world.
9.86.37 Ruling over these worlds, you move with power; O Indu, yoking the tawny, fair-winged mares; may they pour for you their honey-sweet, ghee-rich milk; may the peoples stand in your ordinance, O Soma.
9.86.38 You are the seer of men from all sides, O Soma Pavamāna, O bull; you run through all those things; so flow for us bringing wealth and gold — may we live long in the worlds.
9.86.39 Flow, finder of cows, finder of wealth, finder of gold, sower of seed, O Indu, fixed in the worlds; you are heroic, O Soma, knower of all — to you, the inspired seers approach and sit to sing.
9.86.40 The honey wave has stood upright, eager to please; clothed in the waters, the great bull plunges in; the King whose chariot is the strainer has mounted the prize; Soma of a thousand prongs wins great glory.
9.86.41 He stirs up blessings, those rich in progeny, all life-giving, all well-nourishing day by day; O Indu, when drunk, may you ask Indra to grant us sacred prayer with offspring, riches, and a household of horses.
9.86.42 He, the tawny, desirable exhilaration, first among the days, makes himself known with his mind day by day; moving between two peoples, he goes along — both that of men and the divine ordainer.
9.86.43 They anoint him, they anoint him separately, they anoint him together; they lick his will with honey, they anoint him; in the swelling of the river, the golden-purifying ones seize the flying bull among the waters.
9.86.44 Sing to the wise Pavamāna; his mighty stream flows, the plant-extract rushes; like a serpent creeping over a parched skin, the tawny bull has rushed along playing like a swift horse.
9.86.45 The foremost of herds, a royal one, he gains strength; measuring the days, fixed in the worlds; tawny, dripping with ghee, beautifully seen like a flood, he of the light-chariot flows — welcome to the house of wealth.
9.86.46 The pillar has been loosed, the exhilaration lifted to heaven; the three-natured one streams around the worlds; the inspired thoughts lick the ever-moving stalk — when the singers have gone with song to his shining garment.
9.86.47 Your streams, O ram, passing over the finest things of the purifying one, the gathered ones, run swiftly; when, O Indu, you are mingled with the cows in the bowls, O pressed Soma, you sit in the vessels.
9.86.48 Flow pure, O Soma, our praise-worthy one possessed of resolve; run around the dear honey in the woolen strainer; O Indu, smite all the Rakṣas, all the devourers; may we, endowed with good heroes, speak great words at the ceremony.
9.87.1 Now run forward, sit down around the vessel; purified by men, stream toward the prize; polishing you like a prize horse, they lead you toward the sacrificial grass with their reins.
9.87.2 Self-armed, the divine Indu flows and purifies himself, destroying slander, protecting the enclosure; the father of the gods, the procreator of excellent skill, the pillar of heaven, the support of earth.
9.87.3 He is the inspired seer, the forerunner of peoples, the skillful and wise one, Uśanas by poetic wisdom; he found out what was hidden among them, the secret, concealed name of the cows.
9.87.4 O Indra, this your honey-rich Soma, the bull, has flowed through the strainer for you, the mighty one; winning thousands, winning hundreds, giving abundantly — the prize-winner has ever stood at the sacrificial grass.
9.87.5 These Soma juices with their thousands of cows stream for great prizes, for immortality, for glories; the purifying ones have been loosed through their purifiers — eager for fame like swift horses born for battle.
9.87.6 For the much-invoked one goes among peoples, flowing in all directions with his nourishments while being purified; then bring forth your gifts, O you carried by the eagle — spurring on wealth, rush toward the prize.
9.87.7 This pressed Soma has run around the strainer, rushing forward like a released torrent; sharpening himself like a great bull with his horns, he rushes toward the cows, seeking them like a hero, like a fighter.
9.87.8 He came from the furthest interior of the rock; hidden though they were, he found the cows in the broad place; thundering with the clouds like lightning from the sky, O Indra, this stream of your Soma flows.
9.87.9 And you circle the herd of cows, O Soma, purifying yourself on the same chariot with Indra; O swift giver, bestow upon us many great refreshments and food supplies; O powerful one, strengthen those praises of yours.
9.88.1 This Soma, O Indra, is pressed for you, it flows purified for you — drink of it; you have fashioned him and chosen Indu, the Soma, for exhilaration and youthful strength.
9.88.2 Like a well-yoked chariot of great wealth, he has been harnessed for the winning of many and great riches; then all things born of Nahuṣa's race, the sky-winning ones, have cried upward in the forest.
9.88.3 Like Vāyu who has his team, well-impelled on his journey, most beneficent in answer to prayer like the Nāsatyas — you are all-desired, bestowing wealth by yourself like Draviṇodas, O Soma, swift of thought like Pūṣan.
9.88.4 Like Indra who has performed great deeds, you are the slayer of Vṛtras, O Soma, the breaker of strongholds; for you, like Paidva, are the slayer of the serpent-brood; O Soma, you are the slayer of every Dasyu.
9.88.5 Like Agni when released in the forest, freely bestowing splendours in the rivers; like a warrior against a great one, with his roaring, Soma Pavamāna stirs up his wave.
9.88.6 These Soma juices have passed through the woolen strainer, like heavenly vessels pouring rain from the cloud.
9.88.7 Flow mightily like a troop of Maruts, O strong one; uncondemned, like the heavenly clan; be quick well-thinking toward us, like the waters — O Soma of a thousand forms, like a sacrifice that conquers armies.
9.88.8 Your ordinances are truly those of King Varuṇa; great and deep is your station, O Soma; you are pure, dear like Mitra, powerful in skill like Aryaman, O Soma.
9.89.1 Onward the carrier shoots along the paths; Soma Pavamāna, like rain from the sky, has streamed; the thousand-streamed one has settled in us — Soma both in the mother's lap and in the forest.
9.89.2 The king of the rivers has put on his garment; he has mounted the straightest ship of Ṛta; the drop, swift as a falcon, has waxed mighty in the waters; the father milks it, and milks the daughter of his father.
9.89.3 They acclaim as a lion the inexhaustible one of the honey, the tawny, ruddy lord of this sky; the hero, foremost in battle, he seeks the cows; the bull watches over with his eye.
9.89.4 The honey-backed, terrible, inexhaustible horse they yoke to the chariot, the wide-wheeled and exalted one; the sisters, the kinswomen, wipe him clean; those of the same navel strengthen the prize-winner.
9.89.5 Four ghee-milking ones accompany him, seated within the same supporting place; they stream toward him with reverence as he purifies himself; the many ancient ones surround him from all sides.
9.89.6 He is the pillar of heaven, the support of earth; all peoples are in his hand; may that source be his for the singers — the stalk of honey, accompanied by his team, flows for Indra's power.
9.89.7 Winning, unchecked, toward the divine feast, flow, O Soma Vṛtrahān, for Indra; grant us great wealth rich in many splendours — may we be lords of heroic power.
9.90.1 Impelling himself forward, the begetter of Heaven and Earth has gone forth like a chariot about to win the prize; going to Indra, sharpening his weapons, placing all good things in his two hands.
9.90.2 The voices of the singers have lowed toward the three-ridged, virile, life-sustaining one; like Varuṇa clothed in the forests, like the rivers, the treasure-placer distributes the desirable things.
9.90.3 O hero among heroes, possessing all heroes, mighty in strength, a conqueror — flow and win wealth; sharp-weaponed, swift-bowed, unconquered in combats, having overpowered the enemies in battles.
9.90.4 O you of wide cattle-pasture, making safety on both sides, flow into the full intelligence; seeking to win the waters, the Dawns, the sunlight, the cows — roar together for us the great prizes.
9.90.5 O Soma, gladden Varuṇa, gladden Mitra; O Indu Pavamāna, gladden Indra, gladden Viṣṇu; gladden the troop of Maruts, gladden the gods; O Indu, gladden great Indra for exhilaration.
9.90.6 Thus flow, purposeful and vigorous like a king, destroying all evils; O Indu, give sustenance to the well-spoken word — do you ever protect us with blessings.
9.91.1 He was released like a skilled charioteer in battle, the first thinker, impelling by thought. The ten sisters upon the woollen filter drive the carrier toward the dwelling places.
9.91.2 For the feast of the celestial folk, pressed with the wisdom-chants of Nahuṣa's race, flows Indu; he who, immortal among mortal men, is cleansed and polished by the sheep's wool, by the cows' milk, by the waters.
9.91.3 The roaring bull-stalk roars to the bull; the Pavamāna sends forth the shining milk of the cow. Equipped with a thousand lauds, the sun-like knower-of-speech travels by unobstructed paths to the narrow passage.
9.91.4 Shattering even the firm abodes of the Rākṣasas, O Indu being purified, uncover the prizes. Those who are near or far from approach — smite them from above with the impetuous weapon of the bull-striker.
9.91.5 As of old, O all-desired one, make open the eastward paths for the new hymn, for the well-sung praise. Those great ones difficult to vanquish, won by combat — may we obtain them through you, O much-acting, much-nourishing one.
9.91.6 So flowing purified, fetch us waters, sunlight, and cows; many offspring and progeny. O Soma, may our field be propitious; grant us broad lights; long cause the sun to rise for us to see.
9.92.1 The tawny stalk, pressed and flowing around the filter like a chariot released in quest of prizes, attains splendour and power as it is being purified; it has pleased the gods with offerings.
9.92.2 Seeing men, the seer has run toward the filter, setting his name in his own birthplace. Sitting in the vessels like a Hotṛ in the seat, the seven inspired seers have come to him.
9.92.3 Forward flows Soma of good intelligence, knower of the way, god of all gods, being purified, ever going to his seat. May the wise one delight in all poetic works; among the five peoples he exerts himself.
9.92.4 Thine, O Soma Pavamāna, in the secret rite are all the gods — three times eleven. On the woollen back ten streams with natural skill cleanse you; the seven mighty rivers cleanse you.
9.92.5 May this be the truth of the Pavamāna — that all the singers have assembled therein. He who made light for the day and created the world, he saved Manu, making the Dasyu fear.
9.92.6 Like a Hotṛ visiting homes rich in cattle, like a true king moving through assemblies, Soma being purified has come to the vessels, settling like a buffalo in the forests.
9.93.1 The sisters together cleanse him simultaneously — the ten thoughts of the wise one, the bearers. The tawny one has run around; he has hastened to the rays of the sun; he has gained the vessel like a prize racehorse.
9.93.2 Bellowing like a child with its mothers, the bull, much-desired, has rushed forward with the waters. Like a young man going to meet a woman adorned for pleasure, he comes together with the milch-cows in the vessel.
9.93.3 And now has swelled the udder of the inviolable cow; Indu of good wisdom accompanies the streams. The cows bedeck his head with milk in the vessels, as though with treasures newly brightened.
9.93.4 O Pavamāna, together with the gods, bestow on us wealth rich in horses, O longing Indu. May the willing, full-giving abundance, well-directed, come toward us for the giving of goods.
9.93.5 Now fill us up with wealth abounding in men, as you are purified — wealth from Vātāpa, universally delightful. O Indu, extend the life of the worshipper; may the prayer-wealthy one go forth swiftly in the morning.
9.94.1 When in him the thoughts contend for glory like mares, like peoples under the sun, then, choosing the waters, he flows as a seer, with insight as a cattle-stall enriching cattle.
9.94.2 Unfolding doubly the abode of immortality, the worlds spread out for the one who finds the sun. Swelling the prayers like cows gathering at sunset, the ṛta-following ones have cried aloud toward Indu.
9.94.3 When the seer carries his poetic gifts around all the worlds like a hero in a chariot, newly fresh, seeking to adorn with wealth and power among gods, with renown for mortal man — he is fresh with abundant gifts.
9.94.4 Born for glory, he has gone forth for glory; he bestows glory and vigour upon his praisers. Those who have clothed themselves in glory have attained immortality; their encounters prove true, their alliances firm.
9.94.5 Flow forth toward us with nourishment and strength; create horse and cow and broad light; gladden the gods. All these things are easy for you to bear, O Pavamāna Soma — you drive away enemies.
9.95.1 Crying aloud, the tawny one, being released and purified, settles in the belly of the wood. Harnessed by men, he creates the bright robe of the cows; thence with his powers he engenders insights.
9.95.2 The tawny one, being released, sets the speech in motion along the path of ṛta, like a rower steering a boat. The god reveals the secret names of the gods upon the sacred grass in the proclamation.
9.95.3 Like the waves of the waters rushing forward, the inspirations stream toward Soma. Bowing, they go near and unite, the eager ones entering him who is eager.
9.95.4 As he is being polished on the back like a buffalo, the stalk — the mountain-dwelling bull — they milk. The inspirations accompany him as he bellows; Trita bears Varuṇa in the ocean.
9.95.5 Inspiring the speech like a prompting priest beside the Hotṛ, O Indu being purified, release the inspiration. And in that you and Indra reign for our well-being — may we become masters of heroic strength.
9.96.1 A champion general, at the head of the chariots, he goes seeking cows; his army rejoices. Making good things for Indra-invoking friends, Soma puts on his vigorous garments.
9.96.2 The tawny ones cleanse his tawny form, unimpeded by reverences quick as horses. The friend of Indra mounts his chariot; knowing this, he goes toward good favour.
9.96.3 Flow pure for us, O god, at this divine feast, O great Soma, flowing to the place where Indra drinks. Making the waters and raining down the sky and this earth, O being purified, grant us wide relief.
9.96.4 Flow pure for conquest, for invincibility, for well-being, for total wholeness, for greatness. That is what all these friends desire; that is what I, O Pavamāna Soma, desire.
9.96.5 Soma flows pure — the progenitor of inspirations, the progenitor of heaven, the progenitor of earth, the progenitor of Agni, the progenitor of the sun, the progenitor of Indra, and the progenitor of Viṣṇu.
9.96.6 Brahman of the gods, path of the seers, ṛṣi of the inspired poets, buffalo of the beasts, falcon of the vultures, axe of the forests — Soma roaring passes through the filter.
9.96.7 Soma being purified has swelled the wave of speech like a river, along with hymns and inspirations. Seeing inward the lower enclosures, the bull mounts knowing among the cows.
9.96.8 Exhilarating, winning in battles, unimpeded, O thousand-seeded one, flow toward the prize. O Indu Pavamāna, of deep thought, stir up the wave of the stalk for Indra, impelling the cows.
9.96.9 Dear Soma, beloved of the gods, flows around the vessel for the exhilaration of Indra; Indu of a thousand streams, a hundred prizes goes to the assembly like a prize steed.
9.96.10 Primeval, the finder of treasure, as he is born being cleansed in the waters, being milked on the stone — guardian against evil speech, king of the world — as he is purified he finds the path for Brahman.
9.96.11 For through you, O Soma Pavamāna, our wise fathers of old performed their deeds. Winning, unimpeded, throw off the enclosures; become for us a Maghavan with heroes and horses.
9.96.12 Just as you flowed for Manu, granting vigour, destroying enemies, knowing wide space, offering oblations — so flow now placing wealth, resting in Indra, creating weapons.
9.96.13 Flow pure, O sweet Soma of ṛta, wrapping yourself in the waters upon the woollen filter. Settle down into the vessels rich in ghee — most exhilarating, the inebriating one where Indra drinks.
9.96.14 Flow pure as the rain from heaven, O hundred-streamed one, thousand-winning, prize-seeking at the divine feast. Crying out together with the rivers and with the dawn-cows in the vessel, extend our lifespan.
9.96.15 This Soma here, being purified with insights, overcomes enmities like a prize horse. Like the milk milked from Aditi — swift, broad as a path, well-controlled like a driver.
9.96.16 Well-armed, being purified by the pressers, flow toward the secret and beautiful name. Toward the prize like a steed seeking fame, toward Vāyu, toward the cows, O divine Soma.
9.96.17 The newborn, lovely child they cleanse; the Maruts as a troop adorn the carrier. A seer with hymns, in his poetry a seer, being a seer — Soma roaring passes through the filter.
9.96.18 He who has the mind of a ṛṣi, who makes ṛṣis, winner of the sun, leader of thousands, path of the seers — the buffalo seeking to gain the third station: Soma rules alongside Virāj as a verse.
9.96.19 A falcon, a bird dwelling in the vessel, bearing all, the drop that finds the cows, bearing weapons — following the wave of the waters, the ocean, the buffalo proclaims the fourth station.
9.96.20 Like a bright youth polishing his body, like a prize horse running to win treasures, like a bull around herds, flowing toward the vessel, crying aloud he has entered the bowls.
9.96.21 Flow pure, O Indu Pavamāna, with great powers; crying aloud, flow around the woollen filters. Playing, enter the bowls as you are being purified; may your inebriating sap exhilarate Indra.
9.96.22 His great streams have flowed forth; anointed with the cows' milk, he has entered the vessels. Making a Sāman, knowing the Sāmans, wise, he comes crying aloud toward his friend like a kinsman.
9.96.23 Striking down enemies you go, O Pavamāna; praised, Indu comes like a lover to his beloved. Settling in the forests like a bird in flight, Soma being purified sits established in the vessels.
9.96.24 Your brilliances, O Soma Pavamāna, come like women — good milch-cows, of fine streams. The tawny one, much-desired, brought to the waters, has cried aloud in the vessels of those devoted to the gods.
9.97.1 Urged by his impulse, urged by his longing, being purified, the god has mixed his sap together with the gods. The pressed one, roaring, goes around the filter like a Hotṛ visiting cattle-rich homes.
9.97.2 Wearing fine common garments, the great seer declaiming his utterances — flow into the bowls as you are being purified, far-seeing, wakeful at the divine feast.
9.97.3 The beloved is cleansed upon the woollen filter, more glorious, the dweller among glorious things in our house. Sound out across the desert as you are being purified — do you always protect us with blessings.
9.97.4 Sing forward; let us praise the gods; urge Soma toward great wealth. Sweet he flows through the woollen filter; our god-devoted one settles in the vessel.
9.97.5 Indu, coming to the friendship of the gods, of a thousand streams, flows pure for exhilaration. Praised by men, following his former station, he has come to Indra for great good fortune.
9.97.6 Flow, O tawny one being purified, toward wealth for the praiser; may your exhilaration go to Indra for sustenance. Go with the gods in the same chariot toward the gift — do you always protect us with blessings.
9.97.7 Proclaiming his poetic craft as Uśanas would, the god declares his birth among the gods. Of great vow, of pure alliance, purifying — roaring, the boar comes forward with steps.
9.97.8 The swans have gone forward toward trefoil and ardour; from hence the bull-hosts have gone home. Friends together declare the roaring chant of the Pavamāna, the hard-to-bear sound.
9.97.9 He rushes with the drive of the wide-goer; the cows do not restrain him playing freely. The sharp-horned one makes abundance; by day the tawny one is seen, by night the bright one.
9.97.10 Indu the prize horse flows, winning cattle, filling Indra together, Soma for exhilaration. He slays the Rakṣas, drives away enmities on all sides, making wide space — king of the community.
9.97.11 Then mingling with a stream of honey, milked by the stone, he flows through the wool. Indu, enjoying Indra's friendship, the god for the god's exhilaration — intoxicating for delight.
9.97.12 He flows pure toward beloved things, the god mingling the gods with his own sap. Indu, wearing the laws in their proper seasons, with ten finger-strokes has spread himself upon the back of the wool.
9.97.13 The red bull cries aloud toward the cows; resounding, he goes along the earth and the sky. Hearkening to Indra's roar in battle, full of wisdom, he flows, sending forth this speech.
9.97.14 Rich in sap, swelling with milk, you go stirring the honeyed stalk. O Pavamāna, you go making the continuum, O Soma, being poured round for Indra.
9.97.15 So flow pure, inebriating for exhilaration, bowing the fierce-grasped one with weapons. Carrying round the bright complexion, seek our cows, O Soma poured around us.
9.97.16 Having delighted, O Indu, in well-pathed, easy-going ways, flow pure in the wide space, creating wide room. Knocking away obstacles on all sides like a club, flow upon the ridge along the desert, upon the back of the wool.
9.97.17 Flow to us the divine, striving rain, rich in refreshment, health-bringing, swift-giving. Finding our way across the desert like a path trodden smooth, O Indu, find these lower kindred, these winds.
9.97.18 Untie what has been knotted like a knot, O Soma being purified — the straight path and the crooked. Like a racing steed bellowing, the tawny one being released, a young man, O divine one, flows through the desert, rich in home.
9.97.19 Desired for exhilaration, O Indu, at the divine feast, flow around the ridge upon the desert, upon the back of the wool. Of a thousand streams, fragrant, undeceived, flow around in the prize-winning, man-conquering fray.
9.97.20 Those who are without reins, without chariots, unharnessed — like prize horses let loose in battle — these bright Somas, divine, go running; come to them to drink.
9.97.21 So, O Indu, flow around toward the divine feast, a cloud, a flood in the vessels. May Soma give us the desired, great wealth — abounding in heroes, mighty.
9.97.22 If the speech of the desirer of mind, or of the eldest in the forefront of the law's field, has fashioned him — then the cows have come, crying for their chosen lord, to find beloved Indu in the vessel.
9.97.23 The heavenly giver of gifts, swelling with the gift of dew, of good wisdom, flows pure with ṛta for ṛta. The king of the fold becomes the upholder of law; he shines abundant with ten rays.
9.97.24 The Pavamāna, seeing men, with his filters — king of gods and also of mortals — may he be doubly the lord of riches among riches; may Indu bear ṛta, well borne, beautiful.
9.97.25 Like a courser to the winning of fame, flow toward the feast of Indra and Vāyu. Being purified, O Soma, knowing wealth, give us a thousand great refreshments.
9.97.26 Being poured round for the gods, may the Somas impel us toward a hero-rich home. Worship-bringing, all-desired, like Hotṛs sacrificing in heaven — most gladdening ones.
9.97.27 So, O divine one, flow pure at the divine feast, O great Soma, flowing to where the gods drink. For great is our stake set in the contest; O Soma being purified, set the two worlds in a good place.
9.97.28 Like a horse bellowing, yoked with bulls; fearsome like a lion, swifter than thought — by the straightest paths leading hither, O Indu, flow pure bringing good will.
9.97.29 A hundred divine-born streams have flowed; a thousand the seers cleanse. O Indu, flow pure bringing the gift from heaven; you are the forerunner of great wealth.
9.97.30 Like the showers from heaven they have flowed during the days; the wise king does not diminish the covenant. Like a son working with the powers of his father, flow pure, bringing invincibility to this community.
9.97.31 Your honeyed streams have flowed forward when, purified, you pass beyond the woollen filters. O Pavamāna, you flow as the station of the cows; born, you have swelled the sun with praises.
9.97.32 Crying aloud along the path of ṛta, the bright one shines as the abode of immortality. He flows pure, inebriating, for Indra, urging forward the speech with the inspirations of seers.
9.97.33 Heavenly fair-winged eagle, O Soma, look down; by your deed swelling the streams at the divine feast. O Indu, enter the soma-holding vessel, crying aloud here near the ray of the sun.
9.97.34 The carrier drives forward the three speeches, the thought of ṛta, the inspiration of Brahman. The cows go asking after their cowherd; the inspirations go crying aloud to Soma.
9.97.35 The milch-cows lowing go to Soma; the inspired poets with their insights ask after Soma. Soma pressed and clarified is purified; in Soma the Triṣṭubh verses resound together.
9.97.36 So, O Soma being poured around, flow pure toward us with well-being as you are being purified. Enter Indra with a great roar; swell the speech, engender abundance.
9.97.37 The wakeful inspired one, with the truths of inspirations, Soma being purified, has settled in the vessels. Whom the zealous, intent pairs of Adhvaryus, the well-directed, the skilled-handed, serve with honour.
9.97.38 That Soma being purified, like the sun upon its support, has filled both worlds and illuminated them. He whose aids are precious and dear to the dear one — he shall not offer wealth to the ungrateful one.
9.97.39 He, the increaser, the cause of increase, being purified, Soma the bountiful, has shone upon us with light. He through whom our fathers who knew the footsteps, the finders of the sun, drove the cows and heated the stone.
9.97.40 The ocean has spread forth in the first dispensation, generating creatures — king of the world. The bull, upon the filter upon the back of the wool, the great Soma has grown mighty, Indu being pressed.
9.97.41 Great is what Soma the buffalo has done — when the embryo of the waters chose the gods. The Pavamāna placed power in Indra; Indu engendered light in the sun.
9.97.42 Gladden Vāyu for sacrifice and prosperity; being purified, gladden Mitra and Varuṇa. Gladden the Marut troop; gladden the gods; O divine Soma, gladden Heaven and Earth.
9.97.43 Flow pure as a straight one, killer of the crooked, driving away disease and contempt. Mixing the milk with the milk of the cows — you are Indra's, and we are your friends.
9.97.44 Flow pure as the spring of honey-sweetness; flow toward us with heroic power and good fortune. Being purified, O Indu, make it sweet for Indra; flow toward us with wealth from the ocean.
9.97.45 Soma pressed, pouring in a stream like a horse released, like a river rushing toward the low ground, prize-winning, has reached the mark. Being purified, he has settled in the wild native place; Indu has met the cows together, met the waters.
9.97.46 Here, O Indra, this Soma flows for you in the vessels — wise, mighty for the desiring one. Seeing the sun-light, well-directed, of true strength — like a desire he has been released among those devoted to the gods.
9.97.47 This one being purified with ancient vigour, setting his beauty through the forms of his daughter, wearing the three-fold protective shelter among the waters, goes roaring at the assemblies like a Hotṛ.
9.97.48 Now, O divine Soma well-directed, flow around the bowls as you are being purified. Sweetest in the waters, honey-rich, possessed of ṛta — like the divine Savitṛ who is true in thought.
9.97.49 Flow toward Vāyu for his feast while being praised, being purified; toward Mitra and Varuṇa. Toward the man swift of thought standing in the chariot; toward Indra the bull, the thunderbolt-armed.
9.97.50 Flow toward fine, well-worn garments; being purified, toward good milch-cows. Toward bright gold for us to carry; toward chariot-horses, O divine Soma.
9.97.51 Flow toward us with the divine goods, being purified, toward all earthly goods as well. Toward that by which we may attain wealth; toward the noble heritage like Jamadagni.
9.97.52 By this purification, flow pure bringing these goods; O Indu, advance upon the lake. Even here the ruddy one is driven like wind; even the much-wise one gave a man to the swift.
9.97.53 And with this purification, flow pure for us upon the famous ford of the praiseworthy. Sixty thousands of treasures, as though shaking a ripe tree for battle.
9.97.54 Great are the bull-names of this one in his strength — whether in the Māṃścatva or the Pṛśana weapon. He lulled the secrets to sleep and gave them unction; the mindless, backward enemies he turned away.
9.97.55 You pass through three spread-out filters; you run along one as you are being purified. You are Bhaga, you are the giver of the gift, you are Maghavan for those who have gifts, O Indu.
9.97.56 This omniscient, inspired Soma flows pure — king of all the world. Stirring the drops at the assemblies, Indu goes passing the woollen filter at the same time.
9.97.57 The unfailing buffaloes lick Indu; the seers roar in their place like eagles. The wise ones urge him on with ten movements; they anoint his form with the essence of the waters.
9.97.58 Through you, O Soma Pavamāna, may we always gather in what has been wrought in battle. May Mitra and Varuṇa magnify that for us — Aditi, Sindhu, Earth, and Heaven.
9.98.1 Flow toward us, O prize-winning one, with wealth most longed for by many, yielding a thousand things, mighty in fame, all-conquering.
9.98.2 That pressed one has wrapped around the woollen garment like armour on a chariot. Indu, fixed in his rush, hurried, has attained the mark with his streams.
9.98.3 That pressed Indu, the shedder of exhilaration, has reached his mark in the wool. The stream which goes upward at the sacrifice, bright, does not tire, seeking the cows.
9.98.4 For you, O divine one, ever seek to bestow goods upon the mortal worshipper. O Indu, you woo a thousandfold wealth, a hundredfold in its nature.
9.98.5 O Vṛtra-slayer, O wealth-lord, of wealth longed for by many — may we be nearest of all to your refreshments, unimpeded in your grace.
9.98.6 Twice five sisters self-glorious, the one compacted by the stone — dear and desired by Indra, the wavy one — they bathe and cleanse.
9.98.7 Around the lovely, tawny, brown one they purify with the woollen filter — he who goes encompassing all the gods together with exhilaration.
9.98.8 With his protection drink this power-accomplishing one. He who has laid up great renown among the patrons — the lovely one, like the sun.
9.98.9 He, Indu, was born as a human offering at your sacrifices, O Heaven and Earth. The divine and the divine ones, dwelling on the mountain — inexhaustible they roar toward that loud-thundering one.
9.98.10 O Soma, you are poured around for Indra to drink — the Vṛtra-slayer — and for the man of right hand, the divine one, who sits in the seat.
9.98.11 Those ancient Somas have flowed at the dawns through the filter, spreading out far, oblique, pressed in the morning — those the heedless ones did not understand.
9.98.12 That one who shines in front — may you friends and we patrons attain the prize-scented one; may we win the prize-rich home.
9.99.1 For the lovely, bold one they stretch the bow of manliness. The great ones in the forefront of the waters weave a bright garment for the powerful lord.
9.99.2 Then through the night, decorated, he plunges forward toward prizes — when the thoughts of Vivasvat urge on the tawny one to go.
9.99.3 We cleanse for him that exhilaration which is most fit for Indra to drink — which the cows have placed with their mouths of old, and the patrons do now.
9.99.4 With an ancient song they have praised him as he is being purified. And the prayers bearing the names of the gods have lamented.
9.99.5 Him, as he is dripping in the woollen filter, the bearing one, they purify. Like an envoy, the inspired ones instruct him with foremost thought.
9.99.6 He being purified, most exhilarating, Soma, sits in the vessels. Like seed placed in an animal, the lord calls forth the prayers.
9.99.7 He is polished by skilful workers, the god pressed for the gods. He plunges through the great waters as one who makes them overflow — this is perceived in them.
9.99.8 O Indu, pressed and poured into the filter, led about and guided by men — most exhilarating for Indra, you settle into the vessels.
9.100.1 The guileless ones press forward toward the dear and desired of Indra; like mothers licking their newborn calf at first life, they lick him.
9.100.2 O Indu being purified, bring us, O Soma, wealth of double strength. You nourish all goods in the house of the worshipper.
9.100.3 Release the prayer harnessed to the mind like rain from thunder. O Soma, you nourish earthly and heavenly goods.
9.100.4 The stream of you who have conquered, of the pressed one, runs around; rushing, it passes through the woollen filter like a prize horse seeking the prize.
9.100.5 Flow pure with your stream for our will and discernment, O wise Soma. You are pressed for Indra to drink, and for Mitra and Varuṇa.
9.100.6 Flow pure, most prize-winning, pressed through the filter in a stream. Most honey-rich, O Soma, for Indra, for Viṣṇu, for the gods.
9.100.7 The guileless mothers lick you, O tawny one, in the filter — like milch-cows licking a newborn calf, O Pavamāna, in the dispensation.
9.100.8 O Pavamāna, you travel with great renown, with bright rays. You smite all the darknesses in the house of the worshipper, overpowering them.
9.100.9 O you of great vow, you have upheld heaven and earth. You, O Pavamāna, have loosened the cloak by your greatness.
9.101.1 O friends, be foremost victors for the expressed soma-juice, for him who gives intoxicating joy. Smite away the long-tongued dog.
9.101.2 He who, when pressed, flows all around with a purifying stream — the drop, like a willing horse.
9.101.3 Him, the inviolable soma, the men propel with all-encompassing thought and with the pressing-stones, urging on the sacrifice.
9.101.4 These pressed soma-juices, most honey-sweet, gladdening, for Indra — purified they have flowed; let your exhilarations go to the gods.
9.101.5 "The drop flows purified for Indra" — thus the gods have spoken. Lord of speech, he is exuberant, ruling the all with might.
9.101.6 With a thousand streams he flows purified, the ocean, stirring speech — soma, lord of riches, the ally of Indra day by day.
9.101.7 This soma — Pūṣan, wealth, good fortune — flows while self-purifying; lord of all existence, he has gazed out over both worlds.
9.101.8 Together the dear ones have sounded in harmony — the vigorous kine; the somadrops, the flowing ones, make the paths for the pavamāna drops.
9.101.9 O Pavamāna, bring hither that most powerful, most glorious one who, encompassing the five peoples, brings the wealth whereby we shall win.
9.101.10 Let the soma-drops, the drops, flow purified for us — most skilled in finding the way, friendly, when pressed, blameless, expert in sacred hymn, knowers of the sun.
9.101.11 Well-pressed by the stones, adorned upon the hide of the cow, the knowers of wealth have sounded together on all sides the refreshment for us.
9.101.12 These soma-juices, purified, wise, mixed with curds — like suns they are visible, fleetly moving, steadfast in the ghee.
9.101.13 No mortal has blocked the speech of the soma-presser; smite away the godless, unpropitious dog, as the Bhṛgus smote the niggard.
9.101.14 A kinsman he has clothed himself in his garment, like a son in the lap of the two parents; flowing on like a lover of women, like a bridegroom he has settled in the womb.
9.101.15 That hero, perfecting our might, who has propped apart the two worlds — the tawny one has clothed himself in the filter; the ordainer has settled in the womb.
9.101.16 Soma flows purified through the sheep's-wool filters, upon the cow's hide; bellowing, the tawny bull approaches the purified draught of Indra.
9.102.1 As an infant of the great ones, stirring the beam of cosmic order, he has become beloved of all — and then twofold.
9.102.2 He has shared in the footholds of Trita, that station which is hidden in the cave — then the beloved one with the seven stations of the sacrifice.
9.102.3 The three of Trita — with his stream he sets riches upon the ridges; the one of good wisdom measures out his yokings.
9.102.4 The seven mothers instructed the wise ordainer at his birth for glory; this one, the steadfast one, has discerned the riches.
9.102.5 In his rite, in unison, all the gods — the undeceiving ones — their pleasures become enviable; as they rejoice in it.
9.102.6 The ones rich in cosmic order have brought forth the lovely embryo to be seen — the poet, most bountiful at the sacrifice, much-desired.
9.102.7 The two young mothers of cosmic order, harmonious, have spread themselves around by themselves; extending the sacrifice in sequence as they anoint it.
9.102.8 By his will, with his bright orbs, he rolls open the enclosure of heaven; propelling the gleam of cosmic order at the sacrifice.
9.103.1 Lift up the word to the self-purifying Soma, the wise ordainer — bring it like a carrying-gift with your thoughts; he takes delight in it.
9.103.2 He flows around the imperishable wool-filters, anointing himself with the milch-kine; the tawny one, self-purifying, makes the three stations.
9.103.3 He flows around the honey-dripping vessel in the wool of the imperishable filter; the seven voices of the seers have resounded upon him.
9.103.4 The leader of thoughts, the all-god, the inviolable — soma, self-purifying, the tawny one enters into the two bowls.
9.103.5 Go around with the divine ones, following your own power, sharing the same chariot with Indra; self-purifying, immortal, praised by the praisers.
9.103.6 Like a prize-winning stallion eager for the prize, the god, pressed for the gods — the all-pervading Pavamāna runs onward.
9.104.1 O friends, sit down here, sing forth to the self-purifying one; adorn him with the sacrificial rites as an infant, for glory.
9.104.2 Release him together — like a calf with its mothers — the one who perfects the household; the god-destined exhilaration of twofold strength.
9.104.3 Let him flow purified, perfecting our power — as for the vigorous troop to enjoy; as most healing for Mitra and Varuṇa.
9.104.4 For us the voices have sounded upon you, finder of wealth; we are cloaking your hue with the milch-kine.
9.104.5 Be for us the lord of exhilarations, o drop; you are of divine beauty. Be like a friend to a friend, most skilled in finding the way.
9.104.6 Drive away from us whatever devouring demon there may be — the godless, the treacherous; ward off from us the constraint, o drop.
9.105.1 O friends, sing toward him, the self-purifying one, for your exhilaration; let them gladden him like an infant with the rites and with songs of praise.
9.105.2 Like a calf with its mothers, the drop, being urged on, is set in motion; the god-directed exhilaration is arrayed with thoughts.
9.105.3 This one perfects our power; this one is for the vigorous troop's enjoyment; this one, pressed, is most honey-sweet for the gods.
9.105.4 Rich in kine, rich in horses when pressed, o drop, you of excellent power, striker — I have beheld your pure hue upon the cows.
9.105.5 Be for us the lord of the tawny ones, o drop, most beautifully divine in form; be for the sake of manly glory, like a friend to a friend.
9.105.6 Drive from us whatever godless devourer there may be; o drop, overpower the compressor, drive away the treacherous one.
9.106.1 Let these pressed ones, the tawny streams, go toward Indra the bull; the drops, born for obedient service, are knowers of the sun.
9.106.2 This one, the sustainer, pursuing his course, flows purified, pressed, for Indra; soma keeps vigil for the victorious battle, as is his wont.
9.106.3 In the exhilarations of this one, may Indra seize the sustaining grip; and may the water-conqueror bear his virile bolt.
9.106.4 Run forward, o Soma, wakeful; o drop, flow all around for Indra; bring the blazing vigor, the knower of the sun.
9.106.5 Flow purified, the virile exhilaration for Indra — you who are seen by all; you of a thousand courses, path-maker, far-sighted.
9.106.6 Most skilled in finding the way for us, most honey-sweet for the gods — go on a thousand paths, sounding aloud.
9.106.7 Flow purified, o drop, for the gods' enjoyment, with streams, with might; honey-laden soma, fill our vessel, our seat of offering.
9.106.8 Your swelling drops have grown for Indra's intoxication; the gods have drunk you for immortality.
9.106.9 Hither to us, o pressed drops, self-purifying, run with riches — you whose days bring rain, whose waters flow, who know the sun.
9.106.10 Soma, self-purifying, with his wave runs through the wool filter; the Pavamāna, sounding aloud, leads the speech.
9.106.11 With their thoughts they urge on the prize-winner playing in the wood, the fleet sheep-fleece; the inspirations have sounded together upon the three-backed one.
9.106.12 He was released toward the vessels, like a stallion eager for prize at the abundant gift; self-purifying he set speech in motion and darted forth.
9.106.13 The beloved, tawny one flows purified, swiftly past the obstacles; he runs flowing, bringing heroic glory to the praisers.
9.106.14 Flow purified by this means, devoted to the gods; the streams of sweetness have been released; singing loudly, you go all around the filter.
9.107.1 Pour around the pressed soma, he who is the highest oblation; he who, bearing his course manfully in the midst of the waters, has pressed soma with the stones.
9.107.2 Now, self-purifying, flowing around through the sheep-wool, undeceived, sweeter in fragrance — even when pressed, we exhilarate in you with the soma-drink, mixing you higher with the milk of kine.
9.107.3 He flows all around as a wonder to behold — the gladdener of gods, wisdom itself, the drop, the far-sighted.
9.107.4 Self-purifying, o Soma, you flow with your stream, clothing yourself in the waters; you settle in the womb of cosmic order, the seat of treasure, a divine golden spring.
9.107.5 Milking the heavenly udder, the dear ancient sweet, he has settled in the ancient station; the far-sighted prize-winner, shaken by men, runs to what must be approached, to the foundational.
9.107.6 Self-purifying, o Soma, wakeful, beloved as you flow around through the wool filter — you have become the inspired sage, the most Aṅgiras-like; moisten our sacrifice with sweetness.
9.107.7 Soma, the bountiful, flows purified — most skilled in finding the way, the seer, the sage, the far-sighted. You have become the poet, most dear to the gods; you have caused the sun to rise in the sky.
9.107.8 Soma, being pressed by the pressers upon the ridges of the sheep-wool — like two tawny mares it goes with its stream; with its exhilarating stream it goes.
9.107.9 Rich in kine amid the watery place, soma has pervaded with kine; he has pervaded with the milkings. His enclosures have reached the ocean; gladdened, he pours himself out for exhilaration.
9.107.10 O Soma, being pressed by the stones, through the imperishable wool-filters — like a man into a stronghold, the tawny one has entered into the two bowls; you have established your seat in the wooden things.
9.107.11 He has cleansed himself through the fine passages of the sheep's wool, like a prize-winning stallion at the bountiful gift; the Pavamāna soma, worthy of approval, is praised by the wise, by the inspired seers with their hymns.
9.107.12 Flow forward, o Soma, for the gods' enjoyment, swelled like a river with its flood; wakeful with the milk of the stalk, intoxicating, go toward the honey-dripping vessel.
9.107.13 The beloved, winsome one has clothed himself in the bright garment — like a dear son to be adorned; the waters urge him on like a chariot in the rivers, into the two arms.
9.107.14 Toward this the Āyu-soma-drops flow purified, the intoxicating exhilaration; seated above the ocean, the wise ones, the ecstasy-givers, knowers of the sun.
9.107.15 The Pavamāna, the king, the god, crosses the ocean with his wave — the great cosmic order; flowing under the law of Mitra and Varuṇa, impelling forward the great cosmic order.
9.107.16 Held in check by men, the winsome, far-sighted king, the divine one of the ocean.
9.107.17 The exhilaration flows purified for Indra — soma pressed, accompanied by the Maruts; with a thousand streams he flows beyond the wool; the Āyus wipe him.
9.107.18 Self-purifying in the two bowls, generating inspired thought, the poet-soma rejoices among the gods; clothing himself in the waters, he settles higher amid the kine in the wooden things, adorning himself.
9.107.19 In your friendship, o Soma, o drop, I exult day by day; many sorrows, o tawny one, come down upon me — pass beyond those boundaries and come.
9.107.20 Both by night and by day, o Soma, in your friendship, o tawny one, at your udder — we have flown past the blazing, burning sun like birds.
9.107.21 Being wiped clean, o skilful-handed one, you stir speech in the ocean; you flow purified toward the reddish, abundant, much-desired wealth.
9.107.22 Being wiped, flowing in the imperishable wool filter as Pavamāna, you have bellowed like a bull in the wood; o Soma Pavamāna, anointed with the kine, you flow toward the gods' purified domain.
9.107.23 Flow purified to win the prize, encompassing all poetic things; you, o Soma, the intoxicant, were the first to spread out the ocean for the gods.
9.107.24 Flow purified all around the earthly realm and the heavenly, o Soma, with your laws; the inspired sages, far-sighted, urge you on with their thoughts and intuitions.
9.107.25 The Pavamāna-drops have been released past the filter with their stream; accompanied by the Maruts, the intoxicants, the Indra-potions, the steeds — toward wisdom and toward the sacrificial portions.
9.107.26 Clothing himself in the waters, the drop flows around the vessel, being urged on by the pressers; generating light, he has cheered and filled the exhilarations, making the kine like an adornment.
9.108.1 Flow purified, most honey-sweet, o Soma; the exhilaration most skilled in wisdom for Indra — the great, most celestially potent exhilaration.
9.108.2 He whose drink, when drunk, makes the bull show his bull-strength — he whose drinker is a knower of the sun; that well-perceiving Naitaśa-steed has stepped toward the refreshments, toward the prize.
9.108.3 For you, o Pavamāna, are indeed the most brilliant among the divine births; you proclaim yourself for immortality.
9.108.4 By which Navagva and Dadhyañc unfold; by which the inspired sages have been filled; in the favor of the gods, of the lovely immortal draught, by which glories have been attained.
9.108.5 This one here, pressed, flows purified with its stream through the wool-filters — most intoxicating, like a playful wave of the waters.
9.108.6 He who cut out the cows that are watery and aquatic from within the stone by his might; you have spread toward the cow-pen and horse-pen — burst it open boldly like a coat of mail.
9.108.7 O pressers, pour around the praise-hymn like a horse — water-crossing, realm-crossing, wood-roaring, foam-swelling.
9.108.8 The bull of a thousand streams, swelling with milk, dear for the god's birth — who, born of cosmic order, has grown greatly by cosmic order: the king, the god, the great cosmic order.
9.108.9 Shine out with great brilliance and glory, o lord of refreshments, o divine one, devoted to the gods; burst open the middle vessel.
9.108.10 Flow into the two bowls, o excellent in power, pressed, like the priest and lord of clans; flow purified as rain from heaven, as current of waters; stir the thoughts for the quest of kine.
9.108.11 This very one — the one that showers exhilaration, the bull of a thousand streams — they have milked from heaven, bearing all the goods.
9.108.12 The bull was born revealing himself, the immortal, scorching the darkness with his light; well-praised by the poets, he has put on the adornment — its wondrous deed is of threefold structure.
9.108.13 He is pressed — the soma who is the bringer of goods, the bringer of riches, the bringer of refreshments, he who brings good dwellings.
9.108.14 From which Indra drinks for us, from which the Maruts, from which Aryaman and Bhaga; by which we make Mitra and Varuṇa act for us — for Indra, for great protection.
9.108.15 For Indra to drink, o Soma, restrained by men, well-armed, most intoxicating — flow purified, most honey-sweet.
9.108.16 Enter into Indra's heart, the soma-vessel, as rivers enter the ocean; beloved of Mitra, Varuṇa, and Vāyu — the highest pillar of heaven.
9.109.1 Run forward all around, o Soma — sweet for Indra, for Mitra, for Pūṣan, for Bhaga.
9.109.2 Indra shall drink of you, o Soma, when pressed — for wisdom, for power — and all the gods.
9.109.3 Thus for immortality, for great sovereignty — flow, the pure one, the heavenly nectar.
9.109.4 Flow purified, o Soma — the great ocean, the father of the gods — encompassing all stations.
9.109.5 Flow purified bright, o Soma, for the gods, for heaven, for earth, and for the welfare of progeny.
9.109.6 You are the sustainer of heaven — the bright nectar; in the true dispensation, flow purified, you who carry the prize.
9.109.7 Flow purified, o Soma, brilliant, well-channeled, great, following the ancient way of the sheep-wool.
9.109.8 Restrained by men, newly born, purified — he flows on, exhilarating, knowing the sun.
9.109.9 The drop, self-purifying, encompassing progeny, shall make all riches ours.
9.109.10 Flow purified, o Soma, for wisdom, for power — like a groomed horse, the prize-winner, for treasure.
9.109.11 The pressers purify that flavor of yours for exhilaration, o Soma — for great glory.
9.109.12 They wipe the newly born infant, the tawny one, in the filter — soma, the drop, for the gods.
9.109.13 The drop has entered, the lovely one, for exhilaration — in the lap of the waters, the poet, for Bhaga.
9.109.14 He bears the lovely name of Indra, by which he has slain all the Vṛtra-foes.
9.109.15 All the gods drink of this, when it is cooked with milk, when pressed by men.
9.109.16 Pressed and flowing, with a thousand streams he has pervaded through the filter, through the wool screen.
9.109.17 That prize-winner has pervaded, the one of a thousand seeds, being wiped with waters, being cooked with the milk of kine.
9.109.18 Flow forward, o Soma, into Indra's belly — held in check by men, pressed with the stones.
9.109.19 The prize-winner has been released through the filter — soma of a thousand streams for Indra.
9.109.20 They anoint this drop with the flavor of sweetness — the virile one for Indra, for exhilaration.
9.109.21 For the sake of the gods, for full manifestation of power, they wipe the tawny one clothing himself in the waters.
9.109.22 The drop pours itself out for Indra, pours itself down — the fierce one, cooking and releasing the waters.
9.110.1 Run all around, forward, for the winning of the prize, conqueror of obstacles all around; you go to cross beyond the haters, to dissolve hatreds.
9.110.2 After you pressed, o Soma, we exhilarate you in the great contest-kingdom; you, Pavamāna, plunge forward toward the prizes.
9.110.3 For you, Pavamāna, have caused the sun to be born; with your power you have separated milk from the vessel — speeding, impelled by cow-swift abundance.
9.110.4 You, o immortal, have caused immortal things to be born among mortals, in the ordinance of cosmic order, of the lovely immortal draught; the ever-flowing one shall press forward to win the prize.
9.110.5 You have split through and through with your fame; like some spring for the people's drinking — inexhaustible — carrying, as if with arrows, in the two arms.
9.110.6 And some, beholding, the divine ones of auspicious sheen, have praised the aqueous one; as god Savitṛ unfolds the veil of the filter.
9.110.7 In you, o Soma, the ones who have strewn the sacred grass first placed their thought — for the great prize, for fame; so you, o hero, impel us toward heroic power.
9.110.8 The ancient nectar of heaven, that which is worthy of the ritual recitation — they milked it out from the great depth of heaven; they sounded together upon Indra being born.
9.110.9 And when you, Pavamāna, with your greatness dominate both worlds and all these beings — like a bull established in the herd, you extend yourself everywhere.
9.110.10 Soma, self-purifying in the imperishable wool filter, the Pavamāna has pervaded, playing like an infant — the drop of a thousand streams, a hundred prizes.
9.110.11 This one, self-purifying, honey-laden, rich in cosmic order — the drop, the sweet wave, flows purified for Indra; winner of prizes, finder of wide space, bestower of vitality.
9.110.12 Flow purified, overcoming the battlers, driving away the demons and the hard-to-reach ones, o Soma, well-armed, having conquered the enemies.
9.111.1 Purifying himself with this golden radiance, he crosses over all hatreds with his own-yoked (steeds), like the sun with his own-yoked (steeds). The stream of the pressed (Soma) shines as he is purified, the ruddy, tawny one. He passes through all forms with the singers, with the seven-mouthed singers.
9.111.2 Thou didst find that treasure of the Paṇis; thou art cleansed by thy mothers in thine own house, in the house (of Ṛta), through the songs of Ṛta. That is a song from afar where the hymn-thoughts resound. He, the radiant one, takes his strength with the three-fold ruddy (streams), as he shines he takes his strength.
9.111.3 He goes wakefully toward the eastern quarter; the beautiful divine car stretches itself out with its rays, the beautiful car. The hymns of heroic might have come, gladdening Indra for victory. And the thunderbolt, whenever you two become unshaken in the battles, unshaken.
9.112.1 Our thoughts and the observances of men are indeed manifold and various. The carpenter seeks one who has a broken (wagon), the physician seeks a sick man, the priest seeks one who presses Soma — flow around for Indra, O Indu.
9.112.2 With withered herbs, with feathers of birds, the smith with his stones (and) his dazzling (fire) seeks one who possesses gold — flow around for Indra, O Indu.
9.112.3 I am a poet, my father is a physician, my mother grinds corn upon the stone. Desiring wealth with varied thoughts, we stand following (our callings) like cattle — flow around for Indra, O Indu.
9.112.4 The horse desires a light cart to draw, the merry ones desire a charmer; the penis desires the two hairy clefts, the frog desires water — flow around for Indra, O Indu.
9.113.1 On the Śaryaṇāvat lake let Indra the Vṛtra-slayer drink the Soma, placing strength within himself, about to perform great heroic deeds — flow around for Indra, O Indu.
9.113.2 Flow hither, O lord of the quarters, from the Ārjīka (mountain), O Soma the bountiful; pressed (and purified) with the speech of Ṛta, with truth, with faith, with austerity — flow around for Indra, O Indu.
9.113.3 That great bull (the Soma plant) nurtured by Parjanya — the daughter of the Sun brought it hither; the Gandharvas received it and placed the juice of it in Soma — flow around for Indra, O Indu.
9.113.4 Speaking Ṛta, O Ṛtadyumna (thou of radiant Ṛta); speaking truth, O Satyakarman (thou of true deeds); speaking faith, O Soma the king, adorned by the Ordainer — flow around for Indra, O Indu.
9.113.5 The confluent streams of the great and mighty Truth flow together; the savory juices converge together — purifying thyself, O bright one, carry (us) with thy prayer — flow around for Indra, O Indu.
9.113.6 Where the Brahman priest, O Pavamāna, speaking the metrical (sacred) speech, is honored with the pressing-stone in the Soma (rite), generating bliss with the Soma — flow around for Indra, O Indu.
9.113.7 Where there is imperishable light, in which world the heavenly light is established — place me in that immortal, imperishable world, O Pavamāna — flow around for Indra, O Indu.
9.113.8 Where Vaivasvata (Yama) is king, where is the inner chamber of heaven, where those everflowing, swift waters are — there make me immortal — flow around for Indra, O Indu.
9.113.9 Where movement is at will, in the triple realm, in the third heaven of heaven, where the worlds are full of light — there make me immortal — flow around for Indra, O Indu.
9.113.10 Where desires and longed-for things are, where the summit of the Bright One (the Sun) is, where the oblation and satisfaction are — there make me immortal — flow around for Indra, O Indu.
9.113.11 Where joys and delights abide, where pleasures and raptures dwell, where the desires of desire are fulfilled — there make me immortal — flow around for Indra, O Indu.
9.114.1 He who has traversed the abodes of Indu the Pavamāna — them they call 'well-offspringed'; he who has understood thy mind, O Soma — flow around for Indra, O Indu.
9.114.2 O Ṛṣi among mantra-makers, magnifying Kaśyapa with his hymns of praise and his utterances — revere Soma the king, who was born as the lord of plants — flow around for Indra, O Indu.
9.114.3 Seven are the directions, manifold the suns, seven are the sacrificing Hotā-priests; the seven divine Ādityas — with them, O Soma, protect us — flow around for Indra, O Indu.
9.114.4 O king, with whatever cooked oblation is thine — with that, O Soma, protect us. May no demon cross over us; may nothing whatsoever afflict us — flow around for Indra, O Indu.
